-The bottom line: most computer technicians will agree Dell is far more superior than Compaq. -Business practice: first thing to understand is that these two companies have very different business practices. i have learned that compaq is more of a, "Wait and see if it goes bad..." type of company and Dell is more of a, "We have a problem, let's solve it..." company. -Hardware: Compaq and Dell hardware is quite different. inm fact Compaq is quite different from most pc manufacturers. a lot of the Compaq hardware is propriety, meaning you can only obtain it from compaq. Dell is a different story. if your hardware goes bad and your pc is out of warranty, you can get one from CompUSA, or anywhere for that matter, for Dell sticks to standards. -Software: from time to time, you will find yourself in a situation where you need to reload windows. not a problem if you have Dell. just run the disk maker utility and make diskettes for all your drivers. then, pop in the windows cd and go to work. -Summary: I definitely prefer Dell to Compaq. from my experiences, Dell is genuinely dedicated to customer satisfaction, and Compaq is only worried about it's bottom line.

I don't like either one to be honest with you. Dell is definitely better than Compaq though. I think they will likely win out because their products have better quality on average. That being said, Dell's quality has gotten a lot worse over the last couple years. I think they're losing market share. They actually have plans to start selling already built computers at Walmart. Dell knows they need to get with the program, so I think they are going to improve quality and make the necessary adjustments to be successful. Also, Dell makes a huge portion of their revenue by selling computers to businesses. So even if their market share in the home mark declines, they are guaranteed sales because of contracts they have with companies.

Yeah, I've noticed many companies use Dell computers. As yet I've only seen HP used in one small office.

If it is only up to me then Dell will win. In actuality it is possible that even another company will win. One that has a better product has customer service for it in that country and not only India. One that gives a good guarnatee and service package. One that is competitively prices. We shall see as it plays out.

I think compaq is better,i have my computer for 6 year already i never upgraded it ,and never had problem with the hardwares and it is on 24/7 i think there's many years more to go.Maybe it's the way you care for you computer.I think turning your computer on and off every day will give him less durability.Every month you should open the case and remove the dusts,if a dust hits the hard drive the hardrive would be damaged.
