Looking for good discussions, here's where you will find them...

We've seen discussions on and off about users complaining that we don't have good interesting discussions on myLot. (I'm one of them too..lol)Well I'm not here to define what good or interesting is, but rather to tell you how to look for those discussions here on myLot. We have 75,000+ members here and still counting, there ought to be something somewhere which interests us. We often don't find what interests us in the regular sections, so the question is where are those discussions? So here's where I find them. First, check the discussions your friends have started. If you got a friend request today check that person's older discussions. You are sure to find something there. You can start from your mail notifications, saves time looking for good ones. You can check all the regular sections on myLot..I'm not listing them here, you know what they are. If you still can't find anything then pick a user randomly, either from your friends list or anybody on myLot. If there is a person whose discussions you've liked before choose them, no harm. Go to their profile check out all the discussions they've started, next check the ones they've responded to. Yes, responded to, because you will be surprised at how many good and interesting discussions you can find there which you've missed earlier. Now you are taking this user's help and without their knowledge, so why not do them some good. Respond to one of the discussions they've started(if you haven't already) If that person interests you, add them as a friend too. :) You can 'profile hop'(that's what I choose to call it) all the time and just pick anybody randomly. I do this all the time and to tell you frankly the time I spend here is not enough because there are so many discussions which are beckoning my responses..lol The number of posts I make in day is absolutely normal and not phenomenal, but this tip has helped me a lot. Now I hope everybody finds this useful and will stop complaining about NOT finding good and interesting discussions. Happy mylotting!:) (By the way, thanks for reading till here, I think this is a pretty long discussion)

Thanks for the advice. As a relative newbie I've come across some interesting discussions and some really odd and pointless ones! It's helpful to have more ideas on how to use the site.

Ya, Going through the interest list for new discussions is one good thing... Its like moving in an oprganised manner than just popping into random discussions... Hope this helps you get digging into better discussions...

yeah, good tips.... and when you find a discussion that interests you, always look at the ones listed below that one, about related ones... I am sure you are always bound to pick either of them.. after responding to a discussion, I almost all of the times find myself checking out one of the discussions listed below that one...

Oh yes, I forgot to add that one too. In fact the reason for this discussion was because of one I found in the related discussions.lol Thanks for pointing it out though.

Well, could be so but I dont see it happening. Because all the related or similar discussions are tend to bore you. Where is the variety in it. Oftenly I find below given discussions so similar I think I have already answered for them too.

You have some pretty good tips here. I also often look at the discussions my friends have responded to as well as the ones they have started. I find a lot of good discussions that way. There's one friend it particular I pretty much stalk because she always has something interesting to say... I hope she doesn't mind. =p And now I have the song "You're so vain" stuck in my head because I'm wondering which of my friends will think that comment is about them.

I think these are awesome tips. Usually I spend my day going through the top discussions of the day because thats where most of my friend discussions seem to end up anyway lol. I have gone through their profiles before but sometimes I find it a little tedious, and I hate answering posts that are over a week old because it makes me seem kinda ... well, slow lol. I usually find enough in the way of discussions here to keeo me going throughout the day though. Most of the time, they're interesting enough for me but then I'm a pretty open person and will respond to many different subjects. You can learn so much by doing that.

HI! I've done all of these listed as I am an avid talker typer etc. HAHAHA. I'm being told by friends and family outside of online to "SHUT UP ALREADY" LOL. In a good sense remind you. Another thing I like to do is I'll start a topic on anything that happened to me this day or recently that I feel others here may be interested in also. It's amazing the things talked about here on myLot. Such good useful informative & educational topics. Plus from all over this great world too. Ive got many forengiers on my friends list. Those are the ones with different topics due to the cultural differences. Thanks. Happy postings from Grandpa Bob

I tend to find someone who has the same interests as me and if they write quality discussions, i go back and read all their discussions and comment on them. the sad thing is that there are very few quality discussions here. Most people just put single questions and call it a discussion. I try really hard to post quality discussions.

Yep, was long but may help others - I like to play "treasure hunt" At the bottom of every discussion is a list of "similar discussions" I'll pick one off that list, respond to that, then at the bottom of that one do the same thing. It's fun seeing where I end up from where I started and although maybe not all "spectacular" discussions I have found some pretty interesting ones.

Those are definitely some good tips! Whereas I am well aware that "garbage abounds" on myLot, I can't say that I have ever had much trouble finding quality content. Much like you suggest, I start with my friends list, and generally can find plenty of new material there. Then I find "new people" by looking at the profiles and discussions of those who seemed to provide good responses on my friends' discussions. Those two, together, usually offer me a more than ample number of discussions to read and respond to... given the relatively limited time I have for this. I know some people feel "weird" about going back and responding to a discussion that was posted three months ago-- but there are some VERY worthy topics from the "early days" that never got much attention. Just because they are "old," doesn't mean they are not "good."

Absolutely, I sometimes find so many discussions that have been started 3 months ago and I have something to say on them. It's a good thing you are able to manage without having to look far and wide on myLot..lol

Yes Iv'e been doing that for some time. I also like to go to user's location. you can find all the countries that have myLot users. I will pick a country and find 2 or 3 users to check thier discussions snd the discussions they have responded to. I have found some very interesting ones that way.

Thank you, greengal! I am only new here, and I'm already finding myLot addictive! I do often see the same question asked by multiple people, all within minutes of each other. I am obviously approaching my discussion search the wrong way! I really like your ideas. Obviously suggestions from the wise. I'll do this more often now, and hope to make many more friends on myLot! Thank you!!!

Hi Sasi, welcome to myLot. All you have to do here is start quality discussions and make responses to other's discussions. Please read the FAQ and guidelines of myLot so you will have a better understanding of what is allowed here and what is not.
