My mom sent me a Dell computer last August. When I got it and hooked it all up, it kept saying it didn't have a modem. So I unhooked it and placed it back in at least 5 times before it finally detected it. A week of use later, with Limewire my hard disk just crashed and could not be detected anymore. My ex placed my old hard disk drive into this new computer and it would work but would always go into a blue screen. So from August to this month, I've been using it. Having to repair it or reformatting it almost everyday and now it won't work at all. All the shops are saying I need a new hard disk drive. What do the computer experts think? I mean, are there mylotians out there who know alot about computers and can tell me what I should do? My ex is saying it can also be my memory but my old hard disk had bad sectors already before using it last August. Thank you and I will appreciate all your help on this.

I'm not a computer expert either but at the first sign of a problem you should have sent it back to your mom, to have the problem taken care of under warranty, Dell is a great company and would have repaired the problem. The warranty may be void now after installing the old disk drive into your computer. Most likely you will have to purchase a new hard drive and memory for the computer. I also don't know why the warranty doesn't work where you are? If it came with a warranty and it was a gift, the warranty should cover where ever the computer is. Just my 2 cents worth their, lol.

Sending it back to the US would cost too much that's why I kept it here. Is it true that most Dell computers have 2 memories? A built in one and one that's removable?

All computers have 2 memories, one is the hard disc which is used for stuff like your operating system, the programs you run and the stuff you save. The second is the RAM memory this is the memory that allows you to work on the computer.

I am no computer expert. Just giving my 1 cent worth. I assume you receive a new computer. Also assumed the faulty hard disk was removed and replaced by the old hard disk which is compatible and supported by the motherboard. The issue could be the hard-disk, RAM, heat or the CPU. Would think the computer is still under warranty. Call Dell Support :P

I'm confused your profile lists you as living in the US? Are you there temporary?

I would send it back to your mom to have it repaired. Since it has been modified though, you may have voided the warranty. Get a brand new hard drive and new memory. If you are trying to use on old HD with bad sectors, of course it isn't going to run good. Your blue screen could very well be from memory (at this point I would assume that as many of the blue screens I have seen in Dells have been memory problems). So that should be replaced as well. However, since you have had so many problems with this PC, you may just want to purchase a new one. Sounds like you got a lemon.

formatting the hard disc is the last ditch move to repair a computer, if you have been doing this repeatedly then your current hard disc will surely have a serious problem, I would recommend you go in for a new hard disc, not very expensive now a days In India it would cost about 3000 rupees which in American dollars is less than $70
