Discussions you probably should not start

There have been a number of my friends, and others, who have started discussions that do not last on myLot. One recently was about how many best responses we have. It got deleted. I did not respond to it, so did not lose the point. I feel like comparing ourselves that way can be demoralizing. If you really want to know about some people and their best responses, go to their profile, it is a clickable tab. Another discussion in this category is "How many friends do you have?", or "What is your rating?" All of these things lead to comparisons. They are also all available, if you want to know them, bu investigating the person's profile. I imagine posts about how much we earn per month are also in that same category, and may be deleted. Lets not lose our posts and responses by doing these kinds of discussions. We can think of better discussions for our friends to respond to.

Here's another one to add to your list..Jokes. One on my friends had her some of her discussions deleted and as I enjoy her jokes and always try to respond to them I lost close to 40cents this month. She is a very sweet person so she let me know that myLot had explained there is too much pasting and copying going with jokes. Now she does not do that but was advisied not to post anymore for a while. So be warned.

I feel guilty to some of what you've mentioned there. But I'm also happy to say that, atleast I never flood my friend's discussion lists!;) I only post to what I think can be informative, to benefit others and to what are from my interests. The reason why I also now stopped posting for a while, is because a I am doing a more thinking of what would be my next topic is gonna about. I don't want to lose my effort on typing for making such non-sense, illogical topics, such a great waste of time and energy!;) Thanks for reminding all of us, I hope that others would stick this on their minds!;)

Thank you for this most intelligent posting. Good thought provoking content does not seem to get deleted, does it? I often wonder if there is a black hole that it goes into, only to be retrieved by some intrepid soul that is willing to travel into it to bring it back to the surface after many moons of relative obscurity. As you said, this only serves to invite comparisons, none of which are probably valid, since we don't know the particulars of the individual poster. Thank you for making me exercise my gray matter.

I agree with you. I see postings of this nature and they float around for a while before they get finally deleted and people start losing points. I hope many will notice this post and be reminded again and again that postings like these ones will not get anywhere even if people do respond to them.

Thank you for saying it. It has been said but it doesn't do much good. There is nothing wrong with a short question if it can get the point across, but survey type questions are not allowed. I do sometimes read them and enjoy them, but they are none the less against the guidelines and there are other places for reading polls. I try to avoid responding to them but sometimes I think one might be able to get by I might do it. I check out profiles all the time. I like knowing ASL before I respond to some discussions.

Thank you for this headstart, there really should be specific guidelines on what and what not to post although i know that it is written in the mylot instructions, but i feel that their what and what not to post is inadequate as i still see some post deleted even if they didnt seem to violate myLot's rules. Well i guess that is a mystery that we can never solve, hence i arrive to the conclusion that this is a very subjective site, and that we really have no control over our posts. but nevertheless Thank you GardenGerty for taking the time in giving this advice, this is very informative indeed specially for the newbies =) happy postings!

MyLot, or any other forum would never be able to list everything that may get us deleted, as it also may vary according to which moderator sees it. Yes, it is subjective, it is myLot's forum, we just post to it. At the end of the month sometimes they have a great clean up of things that are not allowed. My idea is that if I have a gut instinct against it, even if I cannot say why, then I will not post to it.

I would have to agree with you. There are so many things that could be talked about rather than menial conversations that are boring and take up space...

Those questions get delete dbecause they don't lead to discussions. All they ask are one or two word responses. Which my lot doe snot want. So they have made them against the my lots guidelines. Which cause them to get deleted. I know when I first started here on my lot. I was probably guilty of doing what I saw others saw like that. But have soon learned how the place works. I myself enjoy answering and reading the discussions on my lot.

Yes I noticed that they do not last for these members sending out these types of discussions. Yes I believe that we should have more valuable discussions and to help one and other but the ones you have mentioned I have stopped responding to some of these and if the person submits a discussion where it is invaluable by just discussing 1-2 lines so anything that has not at least 4 lines I will not respond to as I learnt this when last month I lost money to responding to them.

Yeah you're right, I already have learned my lesson. Just last month I was deducted of mylot earning because of this. Now before responding to a topic, I first look if there is already have the same discussion about it and check also the profile of the topic starter. I also respond now to those relevant topic and discussion.

I found myself responding to a few discussions that were against the guidelines; only to let them know that they shouldn't do it; I give them encouragement and lead them to read the guidelines, terms, FAQ's to that they know what is and is not allowed. I hope I won't have any points taken away from my rating, as I won't be replying to any of those kind of discussions any more, now that I know...Thank you.

Well that would happen when you spend so much time on the forum and realize that old post that have gotten more responces can be repeated, I sometime do not reply to these types of post eaither, i feel its a waste of time.

I agree with you a 100% What is so shocking, as I went through a few discussions on the general tab I saw a person asking people their email addresses I could not believe my eyes. This is just not on, I was actually surprised to see that MyLot allowed that particular post. Because of a certain incident, a week ago, I sorted my friends list out, and I am thankful to say the friends on my list now are just great

That is against guidelines, and I reported it when I saw it. We all have to help police the site, and I mean it in a positive way. Thanks for bringing that up as well.

Good topic and good advice especially for newbies. I think that some people don´t realise that they won´t earn anything from the answers they´ve posted into these kind of discussions. It was an excellent idea to post this useful info here. Have a nice day.

Yes I agree with you and I have noticed that all the new Members that seem to start here specially seem to ask these Questions. I do not reply to them either as I think they are a waste of time.

i agree with you we shouldnt start any discussion that triggers comparing to other users plus that fact that waht can we talk about it? it just one way of knowing who is best and not. i have those discussion that you mention and i never response to those so i dont lose any point. for this pst few weeks i have been too picky wehn it comes to making response... or somthing that only have my interest in thta way i enjoy more but the sad thing is i can only find several good topics nowadays.

I have to admit that I am guilty to responding to the discussion that was deleted. I thought it was a bit of fun and I always like to help my friends by responding to their discussions. However, thanks for the helpful advice. We live and learn. Great topic!

Thank you for posting this discussion . I have read the guidelines and got rather discouraged. It seems though sometimes it hard to come with a topic that had not already been discussed. I did a post once and then discovered there was a similar one to it , mine disappeared right away before I could add it to the other discussion. But since then I have done searches on topics and found that there are several discussions going on pretty much the same topic and they have not been deleted. It makes you wonder. I have read further and see that it is wise to stick to the guidelines so that one doesn't waste their time.
