Be awear, that your bank, and Pay Pal never ever email you asking you to click on a link, or needing updated info, or scare tacticks. This is how they get into your accounts. If you are not sure, call them, or email them, but do not respond and give out any information at all. It's a scam always.!!!!

I,know, I know, I know...the hard way!! I opened an email supposedly from PayPal and updated the requested info. what a fool I was!. It looked idential to legitimate emails I had received from Paypal. I live in Georgia my bank called me 5 hours later and said someone in Manitoba, Canada had tried to get cash from an ATM machine using my Debit/Credit Card they tried a couple of time with computer generated PIN numbers which blocked the account. Thank heavens I immediately forward the email to Paypal within twenty minutes they had responded so between the fast actions of my bank and paypal all accounts and passwords were changed and I didn't lose a penny.

Wow, that was scary. Praise the Lord that you didn't loose a penny. I know people that their life savings were stolen. Do not open anything ever again. They never email with that.

I have just received an email with the Paypal logo asking me to update my information and credit card info. Do you think it's a scam? If I don't do it they will freeze my paypal account.

You cannot go by the logo anymore, it is counterfeited. You must go into your "my ebay." If the message isn't there, it isn't from Pay Pal or Ebay.

The amount I get are unbelievable. I got one from Paypal last week that a transaction from some sporting place was going to go through on my paypal. I copied it and sent it to them and they said not to worry about it I won't be charged.
I get them almost daily from Royal Bank and I don't even deal with that bank.
But I will say I did fall for it once. It was on a Saturday morning and I opened it up and it looked so legit. So I started filling in the info and no sooner did I send it I panicked and the worst part was I knew better and I was just 2 days prior trying to convince my sister to bank online cause it's safe. What a joke. So I went over to the bank right away and spoke with the bank manager. I kept saying to him that I know better so I don't know why I did it. Anyways they changed my account numbers and debit card info. How stupid I was.

I get these junk emails constantly. I resend the paypal emails to spoof@paypal.com. They will send back an email comfirming that they are false emails. I don't worry much about the bank emails, because they always come from banks I don't have accounts with. But this is another sad case of the scumbags trying to rip people off any way they can. I get these for Ebay too, I have never been a member.

Thanks Margie. I get loads of these every week and I even get them for places where I don't have any accounts. Some of the people who have just opened accounts with PayPal etc could easily fall for these scams so hopefully they will heed your good advice.

Oh gosh, I know...and they can look so authentic! The first time I got one I freaked. Luckily, I have a son who works in internet/computer security. I immediately phoned him and he scream, "NO...don't touch that email!" That was several years back. Now I get two or three per day. I can't believe the level to which people will stoop to steal. Think of the poor innocent people who don't know better. So very sad.

I saw someone else post a discussion just the other day saying they were receiving emails from somebody saying they were PayPal and wanted them to "update" their PayPal info. I haven't used PayPal before I came to this site so it's good to know these things so I don't get scammed by one of these mailings. Thanks for the heads up!

I had one of these once. What happend was they tried to access my account so it would get restricted, then sent my an email pretending to be paypal saying you account has been resricted. When i got the email and checked the account i was thinking it was genuin, but when i looked at the link in the email it was obvious a fake because it wasnt the usual paypal adress. So i reported it to paypal and only amused myself by writing up a fake reply with all fake details with a comment saying "You are moronic and braindead if you think i was stupid enough to fall for this.I have reported you!" amlong with some sweare words and such ^_^
Anything that isnt paypal.com/... is a scam i think eg paypal.respond.com/.. I say, if you are unsure just go to the website, log in and do it through your account, instead of through the email. That way you are deffinatly safe :)

I get those emails all the time. One thing I noticed is they never use my name. I even get emails from banks that I don't have accounts with! Paypal is great in handling these scam mails. I also send them to paypal and let them deal with the low life that keeps sending them to me.
