i'm an indian and i know 'HINDI', my mothertongue. Apart from it I know to read, write and speak 'ENGLISH' and I know to read, write and speak (a bit) 'FRENCH'. What about you? How many languages you know including your mothertongue?

I'm afraid I'm quite an illiterate fellow. I only know English and Mandarin. And yes, my local dialect too. :P

but with those 2 languages I guess you are able to communicate with billions of people around the world... so it's not bad :)

I am not really a linguist... I should say am only fluent on my local dialect (Cebuano), or national language (Filipino or Tagalog), and English.... I tried learning a little Korean and Spanish though..but haven't really mastered them.

I'm from a French speaking country in west Africa. I can write and speak French the official language of my country,English my second language in school. Then I can only speak too "Germa" and "Haoussa" the popular languages of my country Niger. Then I can speak too another west African language (Mina from Togo). In my childhood I was able to speak "Bambara" another language from Mali in west Africa (but now I've forget a lot in "Bambara").

oh that great urvashi that you know french apart from knowing hindi. Did you learn french out of interest or do you have any french connection.
• India

no, i don't have any french connection. french was a mandatory language to be learned that was a part of my technical course.

Sadly I only know one language my native tongue of English, I did have a little schoolboy French, but that's about it, English people tend to be lazy when it comes to learning language as English is so widely spoken around the world it doesn't give us much incentive to learn another! I would love to be bilingual but I don't have the aptitude for learning another language sadly.

oh! i never thought from the point of view of an englishman who need not learn any other language. hope my mother tongue was this popular then i wouldn't have made my school bag heavier by keeping notebooks and text books of english!!! what i know is that english became popular worldwide because one can express oneself in different ways using different words to explain the same thing.

the star given to me has the number 9. it was 8 a few days back. all these numbers denote star-rating. mylot has a special way to rate a mylot user after he completes 100 posts and the rating is done based on the quality of discussions that you've posted. it may increase or decrease. it starts from 1 and goes upto 10.

Hi there, I'm about as sad as they come being mono-lingual. Please let me be silly first, and then I'll be truthfull. Well mate, I'm an Australian that's never been anywhere, but I know how to speak Victorian, Tasmanian, New South Welsh (haha), South Australian and the Northern languages, Queenslandish and Territorian. I've never been to the West of the country, but I have heard them on my radio, and they sound like they are far away, so I'd probably have to yell at them to be heard. I have been to Canberra but just couldn't understand anything that happened there, let alone understand the language of Canberran Speak. I do have an understanding of German with poor conversational skills. A little Russian too. I think that because a lot of languages have Latin as a mother language, and I have a bit of knowledge about it and history, I have been saved from complete ignorance. I wish I'd learnt more when I was younger. Ohh, I know a little Thai as well, I forgot. Ha ha. But to be very fluent in many languages would be a wonderful thing. Sawatdee Krup.

Only one and that is the Uk's english since I am from Canada. I never put in the effort enough to learn french besides I would have to use both languages all the time to remember both of them.
