I have been reading the rules on mylot, but wasn't able to find an answer so I decided to ask here. The ones of you that know me, know that we bought our house together with my in laws. It's two different apartments but only one house. We have internet in our apartment and they have a computer in theirs that is networked with ours so it's the same connection. Now my husband's cousin is staying with them to finish a course here in Toronto and he wanted to sing up with mylot, but can he? Basically it's the same connection, the same internet address and I know that many sites don't accept members using the same connection. SO the question is, can he sign up for mylot or not?

There appears to be nothing in the rules concerning this, but you are quite right that the majority of sites would not allow it. My best suggestion would be to send a message to Mylot asking for their advice on this. After all, it is better to be certain before going ahead with anything.

Well I can't see anything either in the Rules so as Asylum says contact mylot. But I think it should be ok as long as they see that it is a different person using it and I think they can check that. Contact them and be on the safe side.

Yes, that's what I will do. For now hubby's cousin is away meeting my sister in law and his little cousins but when he comes back next week I will ask him if he really wants to be a member of mylot and then check with administration.

Since most of the Internet websites allow accounts based of IP addresses not by user name, i would dare to say that your husband's cousin can't register to myLot, as unfortunate as this can be. However, is indeed better to ask myLot staff about this problem.

It is somewhere in the rules, but before I saw it, I had signed my hubby up for myLot. I messaged myLot, and we got it straightened out. It may have helped that often one of us is on the desktop while the other is using the laptop, so they can tell we are two people not just one. I found a spammer once, and reported him, who had signed himself up, answered his own discussions, and then gave himself best responses. He also copied and pasted, and that is when I stumbled across him in my discussions, investigated his profile, and turned him in. I would do like your other friends said, and ask myLot first.

Me and my sister share the same internet connection and it hasn't caused us any problems on Mylot. Every computer has a different IP address and that's all that really matters. I don't think it would cause a problem for either of you even if you were on the same computer.

The IP address that will appear will be the same for any computer that uses the same connection because it will be the IP address allocated to the telephone line by the ISP. If you have several computers using a single outlet, the individual IP addresses of the computers will be internal and used solely for the purpose of linking to the router, which in turn will display the default IP address to the internet.
