Can I Sell Used Make Up On Ebay Under These Circumstances?

A long time ago, I sold used (cleaned & sanitized) make up on ebay all the time with no problem and then one day all my auctions were cancelled because you're not allowed to sell used make up on Ebay. Is the rule "absolutely no used make up whatsoever" or is it allowable if I state that it's used, cleaned and sanitized? The reason I'm asking is...I just quit selling Avon and I have a bunch of make up that I was going to use as testers but of course I had 0 clients so they have all been tested once by me. I plan on cleaning them and I would put in the listing that it was used once, cleaned and that the auction is for Avon Representatives that plan on using the make up as testers. I'm trying to find some way of selling my Avon make up and having it NOT be against the rules so I don't get in trouble only because I have so much of it and I don't want to just throw it all away and go to waste but it's not stuff that I would personally use. Does anyone have any idea??

I agree you should just sell it to friends and neighbors and people that you know. because i dont think that i would buy used makeup off of ebay or any site like that, where i dont know the person that it came from. Im not suggesting there is anything wrong with you but people just never know where it came from or anything like that I wouldn't want to apply it to my skin especially eye make up or things like that.

I guess I'm not sure how you clean & sanitize makeup? I know you can sanitize makeup brushes, but how do you actually sanitize the makeup? I would never dream of buying used makeup on Ebay - it's not worth the risk. And I'm afraid you're not going to get around Ebay's rules - they are in place for a reason and they aren't going to bend them. Read the rules carefully to see if used makeup is accepted if it is labeled as such. You can't be sure that they will catch your listing, but if they do, you could get in trouble or even kicked off, especially since you have already been warned. I think that people tend not to buy used makeup because it's not an extremely expensive product to begin with. If they can buy it brand new and sealed for a few bucks more, they most likely would not buy a used product. It really sucks that you are stuck with all that makeup and wasted your money. My only advice would be to try to sell it to your family and friends or give it as gifts, as long as you are honest with them about the fact that it is used. I would be more likely to buy a used product from a friend, because I know them personally and trust them (however, you can still spread bacteria this way) When I had Lasik surgery a few years ago, I was forced to throw out all of my eye makeup (some of which was almost brand new), because there was a chance that the bacteria could cause an infection. So, I guess it can be a real risk.

Goto www.craigslist.org and list under your city for Avon Reps. Someone will find you and call you. I'm sure they understand and would help you out. Tips: Do not list your email address. It will be picked up by spammers. Use the craisglist address option and still only use Yahoo! in responding, because you still have no idea if the responders are genuine or spammer email address collectors. Thank you for not throwing all your products in the garbage. The world needs more people like you, and the Internet is a great community you can use to find each other in such unique situations like yours.

Thanks! I absolutely hate throwing away perfectly good items. I like to try to pass them on to someone who can get more use out of them or find SOME way to recycle. Thanks for noticing my efforts!

You cannot sell used make-up on ebay.com. That is if you are registered on ebay.com. However, you can sell used make-up on ebay's UK or European sites as the regulations in those countries are different. So if you go through ebay.co.uk, and list your item throught that site, then I think it would be ok to sell. Also there is a great site called makeupalley.com where you can swap makeup, but not really sell it. good luck

How can you clean and sanitize make up? Put it in the microwave or something? Ive always been worried about using my own make up thats been used and hanging about to long in a draw. I thought it could easily become a breeding ground for bacteria.

I honestly would never buy used make-up - even if it is 'cleaned & sanitized'. However, you didn't ask me my opinion on that issue. You did ask how you could sell these products on Ebay and I would offer this suggestion: Don't sell it as a make-up product to be used by the buyer - sell it as a "collectable". In the item description you might mention it is 'cleaned & sanitized' - without encouraging anyone to use it. Use some creative writing without violating the Ebay policy.

Well I certainly wouldn't want to buy any used make up .. cleaned or not .. what about the bacteria .. I'd have thought it's pretty unacceptable to even think of trying to sell it .. When I sold Avon .. many, many years ago .. we were always told to use new or cleaned brushes with make up and were supposed to give away the mini testers to those that tried them ..

I'm not quite sure how you can thoroughly "clean" used make-up.....I can say that I for one would NEVER buy used make-up. In my opinion, that is just plain unsanitary. Like another responder mentioned, you should try to sell the make-up that you have to your friends and family members...I don't think that there are too many people out there who would buy used make-up from a complete stranger.

I wouldn't buy any used makeup. I can understand Ebay won't allow used makeup. You just never know where it has been. Can't be too careful when health issues are a concern. Your best bet, are your friends and relatives.

I would say that if it is on their prohibited list then you won't be able to sell it. What I don't understand is how you can clean and sanitise makeup?

i would definately not buy used makeup from unknown persons, because you never know what you get. maybe its because of that they have these rules. if you sell them to your friends or neighbours, you might be more successfull now.

As an Ex Avon rep myself, I have had a cupboard full of makeup & items that were never returned. For nearly 3 years I didn’t have to buy Xmas or Birthday pressies for family members... lol My old makeup kit, I gave to my 10 year old daughter, she thinks it is great; I have the newer one, even though I don’t wear much make up day to day. If I was you I would have a chat with your District Manager, see if she/he knows of any new Avon reps starting up in your area that need a cheep starter kit/samplers. (I know Avon will want to sell them a new one, but depending on how well you get on with your DM). Otherwise, ask your neighbours over for an “End of Avon Party” Everything must go Sale. Good luck
