Are you an organ donor?

I have to confess that I never gave it much thought one way or another. My sister was, but when she took suddenly ill and died within 2 days, we forgot, and when we had to decide to remove her from her respirator, we wanted to sit with her until she passed. My dad was a donor...he gave his eyes and a lot of his skin to a burn center. It didn't bother me to think about burying him with parts missing...but I just haven't thought much about being a donor myself. Have you thought about it?

I never gave it much thought either until I had my children. I think it made me realise how precious life really is. I am now registered as an organ donor and my family are also aware of my wishes.

I have it on my license that I am one. NOt sure if anyone would want anything from me but I figure I won't need them once I die. Hopefully someone can use them and it will make things beter for them. At least then something good will have come out of me dieing. I'd like to think that I'd be helping someone who really needed it. There are so many who are on waiting lists for different body parts. If we all help out a little then maybe that list wouldn't be so long.

Yes, I am an organ donor and I carry my card everywhere with me. I don't think I have mentioned it to my family so I am not sure how they will feel about it when I have gone. If any of my organs help to save a life the I am more than willing to donate them. There is no point in letting two people die when one could be saved by an organ donation.

I used to give blood .. until I found out I had so many things wrong with me and had too many steroid courses to make my blood safe for anyone else .. I would NOT donnate any of my organs .. I doubt they would be wanted really .. I have taken far too many meds and have far too many illnesses to want to inflict anyone with a bit of my body .. however much they might want it or need it .. I am sure I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who allowed a loved ones body to be used to help me .. but I just can't bear the thought of someone else becoming ill because they ended up with one of my organs .. surely all the disease genes would be in the organ or skin or whatever .. and my illnesses have really ruined my life .. so it just wouldn't be fair .. I wish I could .. but think I shouldn't ..!

There was an episode of House a while back where they transplanted a sick organ into an even sicker person because they knew that without the new organ they would die in a day or so and the new organ, even though sick itself, would give them months to find a new organ or a cure for the sick one.

I carry a donor card but more for selfish reasons really as I think it will be a way of me being able to live on after I die, even if it is only a part of me inside someone else.

Yes as a matter of fact I am an organ donor. I didn't want to be but then I watched a show that showed how they prepare bodies for burial. I won't go into detail but my organs will do me no good once I die.

I'm an organ donor. (Well, not currently, but I'm signed up to be one should some part of my body survive the rest of it, if you know what I mean). It used to be really easy around here - you just told them when you renewed your drivers' license. Now you have to fill out a form and everything.

YES YES YES I do not have a licence but i do carry a card that says i am a donor but only for body parts so to speak not for research or med students. I lost a very good friend of mine when she was only 18 from a hit and run. Her parents decided that she would want to help others and donated her eyes, lungs, heart and kidneys. 5 peoples lives were either saved or so much improved because of their selfless act. I decided that day that i would also be a donor and have never looked back.

i am an organ donor. in the state of pennsylvania they actually put it on your driver's license stating that you are an organ donor, but you still have to let your next of kin and family know that you want to donate your organs because they have the last say in it. I figured i am going to be cremated anyways when i die so why not help other people live longer and better lives with my organs.

I wanted to donate some parts of my body when I die. At least they can be used by other people who are in need with an organ donor. It is very fulfilling to help someone.

I have thought about it and I am a donor. My whole family knows that I want to donate any part of my body that is donatable.

I sure am registered to be an organ donor. Besides, when I die, my soul will leave the body and I want ppl who need my organs to survive to have them. They are just going to rot anyways. My family and lot of my friends also know my wishes when I leave this world for the other side.

About 6-seven years ago I was at the hospital with my mother in the Kidney Dialysis center. I saw a great number of patients waiting for a kidney transplant. I knew at that moment, I wanted to be a kidney organ donor. When I renewed my Ontario health card and was asked if I wish to be an organ donor, I did not hesitate to say yes. I encourage everyone to donate their organs. Please stop and give it some thought. When you donate your organs, you are giving someone a second chance at life.

I havent given it much thought either and I think alot of people feel like that and then its too late. We really should take care of this if we are serious about donating organs. I must put it on my license. And thanks for reminding me.

Yes I am and have been for years. As I am getting older I wonder if they will still want my organs as they must be pretty worn out by now.

It took me a long time to finely say yes,to being a donor. Every time I would get my drivers licence renewed I would respond no. The whole idea really creept me out. I guess the older I am getting and the knowledge I've learned there are a lot of good things that can come out of being a donor. Plus I intend to be cremated when that time comes.

I am an on the organ doners list. I am more than happy to give my body away after i am gone and i have made it very clear to my family i want to be a doner. They can shop it up and give what they can do save lives and the rest can be given to medical science. I'm not sure how my family would cope not having much of a body left to bury/burn, but i hope they honnor my wishes after i have gone.

If I am not mistaken, when I first got my driver's license last August, I asked to become one as well; After all, they won't be of no use to me once I go; If there is someone who can benefit from them, why not? don't mind saying it.
