in the past i have observed some mylot friends posting others posts as their own by cleverly modifying them to surpass detection. while it was really a saddening and insult to the original poster, such an attitude has also been observed to my posts well which made me sick and you can check out that. i am out of thought how handle this but now to my utter surprise i just found one the mylot friends, not to mention his name, has inadvertently replicated my avatar which took me days to use it to resemble my self. copying someone elses avatar only proves being unworthy to fellow mylotters and disregarding the basic ethics of the forum. Being at mylot only heigthened my enthusiam each day except for such disheartful indecent acts by selected mylotters making the position at mylot cumbersome.

Hello totalearnings, I know what you mean. I think I know what you're describing. I saw somewhere with this smiley face exactly like yours. I got a little confused when I saw the username is not you. But really...this thing has been going on and on and I don't know when its gonna stop. Everyone are welcome to join at mylot and sickos are roaming around mylot. I wouldn't be surprise when I saw another one cmplaining about such incident like yours. Just report that person to mylot and you do your posting. All the best.

It's not right to copy other people's posts and make them look as their own by editing a part of it. That is against the mylot guidelines. As for the avatar - Did you create it and/or own copyright to it? Of yes, you can take action, but if not - tough luck onfortunately :( But the person who created it could take action agaist you.. (but won't obviously..).

Oh ok, I see why you are upset now. But I don't think that a person who steals avatars would also post 'quality' discussions as the 2 just don't go together. If anyone if your friends saw this, they would know that it wasn't you because your name is quite unique and easy to remember unlike some other. I personally wouldn't worry myself about it, the people who know you would see the difference posts made between you and the other person because you post some of the better discussions on mylot and I don't think that a person who would steal an avatar would be a good quality poster. (or thinker).

well there are no copyrights watsoever for my avatar and so wouldnt attract any action against me. but the copying of my avatar as a mean way by the person on MYLOT would indirectly or directly influence my earnings adversely by good friends like you who could be misled by seeing the similar avatar to be mine.

hey friend,,, i can understand how much would you be feeling as pissed off... but take the things easily....see if someone steals yur words or thouhgts,,,,he for sure must be dealt with..... but if you say that two pewople have a discusssion about a same theme,,,, then it wudnt be called as cheating....and that is quite obvious...I or anyone would never ever see the "COMPLETE"HUGE"LIST" of discussions.....before posting a new one....so themes can match... please don;t think I am advocating acts of spamming and copying..... to mention, I must tell you that I have a very very cleanshit record here at mylot..... but if someone has copied your pictures or avatars, I would say that he can copy it unless he is using it on the sit..... he may use it anywhere else na....who is stopping him..... and even if he did that to me,,, I woulnd't have matter that much..coz friends would definitely be more important for me than avatars..... but still u can personally ask the guy na not to use that particular avatar.....and is it so that this avatar is your copyrighted image on internet or waht.... see please dont misunderstand me....just try to 'understand' me.... it is very easy and basic if u want to take it lightly...at the same time you can definitley creeate an issure , a fuss about it...its all ur wish how you take it?

hi ketan. had he used my avatar else it wouldnt have any effect on me or my earnings. but i observed many of my friends who got misled just by the avatar. speaking of me i find the avatars of friends here to be easy to identify my friends. anyway things got settled but the person still hangs on to my avatar. copyrighted or not isnt a point here at all not i am interested in making this a big but to alert my friends of such indecent acts.

It is true, my friend. Many of my discussions have been paraphrased or elaborated on sneakily. I am sorry to hear that it is the same for you too. We can't do much, can we? Some people just lack originality. :P At least I take pride that my discussions normally fare better than the stolen ones. ^^ PS.: How did you even make your avatar animated? I just made mine to be animated - but after uploading, only the first frame is shown! :(

i feel the site masters should have mechanism by which they regulate, monitor, screen and check the discussions, comments and replies so that they are not being copied, pirated and labelled. noticed that change in your avatar by the way Lordwarwizard. i suggest you keep the size of animation below 7-8kb to leave animated after uploading too. waiting for some good animation....good luck and thanks for your concern.

I saw that similar avatar.. archerzbaby right...? And 7-8kb only? Gosh.. mine's about 100kb.. maybe that's why... hard to make it smaller. Let me try again lol :P

I hope u hav reported them cause this really is not good.It will definetely curb the interest u hav in ur work.I fail to imagine just how can anyone be satisfied in stealing others peoples work. Its good that u hav brought this topic up atleast ur frnds will know that they hav to look for u before they respond to anything similar. But dont let this effect ur writings they will not last long as they r not original.lol.

thanks eshuniki. i cant stop anyone from being original or not, nor have to say anything on their length of stay at mylot. but these people should try and get original with other mylotters.

Dear totalearnings, if there are such indecent and lousy mylotters, just let them be...YOu should know that everywhere there is bound to have a black sheep which causes the down fall of all the rest. Whats important at this point in time, shoud have been all the way where other mylotters whom appreciates and knows your work or posts which is geninue and sincere, words that is from your heart...That is the true spirit of MYLOT.COM forums. People know you by your words and frankly speaking avatars are just symbols. Anyway, thanks for sharing with us.

thanks for your concern ValkrieAngel. its only the high spirit and appreciations from friends thats making me hang on to mylot. well i guess its only the avatar that identifies you or myself, and i feel my avatar to be a precious one for me rather than just a symbol. and people who know me by my cute smiley would be just misled unconsiously and effect my earnings adversely.

I disagree. If someone is stealing someone else's work, I think they should be reported not only because of what they are doing here but if they get away with it now, they are likely to steal other people's work, too. As a writer, I am very careful when it comes to copyright issues with my work. Of course, my work here isn't necessarily copyrighted but I do post what I post here on other sites that I'm part of because I want to reach as many people with my work as possible. And, let this be a strong warning to anyone who thinks to recopy my work...I've worked with attorneys for 22 years and I'm very familiar with the copyright laws and unless you want to find yourself on the losing end of a lawsuit and a large judgment, you'd better not copy my work.

Oh total, I saw the other user's avatar and almost mistook it to be you. I really like your avatar, which is very cute and was wondering how another can use it in spite of knowing you have it. I totally agree it IS disgusting and only speaks volumes of the unworthiness of the user. Not very good for their reputation eh? I had trouble accepting users who copied part of discussions I started and pasting it as their own responses. That is really stupid and down right cheating! Some people are like that, inconsiderate and want nothing else but to make money! :(
• India
12 Mar 07
thanks for appreciating my avatar greengal. in total i disapprove people who are trying to post copied disccussions and deeply condemn their use of negative attitude to earn money. but that does not stop them from doing it. i think the administors should take a view on this to curb such offending acts.

I dont know about copying avatars but as far as copying posts goes - there are thousands of discussions on Mylot and it is not possible for say someone who has joined Mylot to read through all the old discussions. So they inadvertently may end up starting a discussion similar to the one that has already been posted before. I am giving the benefit of doubt to these people here coz it maybe true for some people. I think what can be done is maybe restrict the psoting of similar topics in the same week or something. Does that make sense?
• India
13 Mar 07
theres every possibility of a new mylotter to post something that has already been posted being unaware and the difficulty involved to go through all previous posts and decide upon. well thats not a fault for a mylotter. but stealing of avatar is just outright and deliberate act to disregard a fellowmylotter and infringe the ethics of this wonderful space.

I can completely understand your anger, and I wish that we could do something about it. The only thing I can think of is to report this member to myLot staff, and let them deal with him. What he have done is wrong, and should not be doing it. I hope that he will get what he deserves.

i have noticed many people like that here who just copied the avatars of other members with many posts or of those who r popular members and amazingly such people really have guts to upload them on their profiles!! it's really annoying and disrespecful in my opinion.their intentions r to attract others to reply to their posts and it's just so rediculous!i think the only way to discourage them is to report them whenever someone notices such a thing.

when there are multiple copying acts causing unwarranted disheartenment and sickness among the really worthy mylotters due to deliberate acts of selected ones, regular reporting would only invite unnecessary dessention among the mylotters and the mylot as a whole. and i wish mylot be the best plae where i can stay still my last drop...

i can understand being offended about copying other people's answers, but perhaps you both just think the same way?? as for the avatar....well, i doubt that you drew that personally and therefore it's free for the world to use. now, if you did draw it and create it yourself...then copyright it and then no one else can use it!! simple, really. have a happy day.

well joey i never expected that even avatars would be simply stolen being so mean, or even copyrighting would be necessary. people who could steal and manipulate discussions could even do with avatars.

I think it is wrong as well to take other members work. I would either bring it up to them or report this. I mean come on this is a place you come to add a thought you might have. That means your own words. Are they a brain fart away from no knowledge of their own? I like your avatar as well, and sorry someone felt they needed to take it. They could have at least ask, specially if it was a friend.

I agree 100%.. i think someone the other day copied my discussion topic about "The Odyssey" the epic written by Homer. I was like what is this, do i need a copywright for my work? It's very frustrating having someone else just copy your stuff and still get the same credit and maybe even better responses.

I don't think that is right to copy other Mylot friends....I think we should try to come up with our own ideas..When i see your aviator,I know its you and that makes me feel like i know you and your posting, but if someone copies it that is confusing...I have also saw a lot of the same post too but did not know they were copying...Mylotters should be ashamed of your selfs if you continue to copy...Shame on you!
12 Mar 07
I think people like this should be reported. It isn't fair when people put in lots of effort on the site and someone else gets rewarded for it.

hi michelle, thanks for the advise. when i noticed a couple of my posts were wisely coated and reposted as their i just tried to adjust myself at mylot and continue as the person was one among my list of friends. but when i saw my avatar among the posts with no responses i found a post which i never made. it was on a close look i got surpised and taken aback to note the id below. i expect that the person should resort to his/her individuality by having a avatar of his own without compelling me to report.

Yeah I know it is sad if people do that. But I don't think you should care about it. You do what you need to do ... You know sometimes I post discussion subject and don't even know that someone wrote something similar. But I now it is other story

I've noticed that too. For some of my more popular posts afterwards there were posts that were very similar to mine. Its just annoying and insulting to do that to others. Especially in the case that its someone how is on your friends list. Though unfortunately this will happen because a lot of people are only on here to earn money and don't care what they have to do to get it.

I guess some of mylot members are really taking advantage of other members, which is definitely not acceptable. I hope someone can do something about this so we could have a harmonious relationship here in mylot. Let's keep this community a give and take community.
