A quokka is an Australian marsupial. They are about the size of a large domestic cat. They are herbivorous and mainly nocturnal. Quokkas are restricted now to the south-west of Western Australia. They are more prevalent on Rottnest Island, where the habitat is more suitable, such as semi arid. Quokkas weigh from 2.5 kgs to 5 kgs, and are approx 40cm to 54cm long. They love to eat grasses, sedges and succulents. On the mainland, they are threatened by foxes. Have a look at my picture of these fascinating creatures.

At last, something else to add besides quail when we are doing alphabet stories. I am glad you included a picture. So far I have never seen one of these in a zoo. It is not often that I run across a new animal to learn about. Good post.

I think the Cleveland Zoo has one of these with its Austrialian part of the zoo. He hides alot in his pen by the tree so its kinda hard to see him or get a picture since the front side is glass and the flash bounces off the window but i have seen him at the zoo a couple times.

The only reason I rarely include links is because I can't copy & paste them. The short simple ones are okay, but the long complicated ones are too difficult to do without the risk of error. But I am nearly there! Yes, the quokkas are very cute, interesting animals. Nearly everyone loves the "Crocodile Hunter".

How cute I left a comment at it's photo. Do people keep them as pets?

No, they are too reclusive and nervopus to keep as pets. Also, they are an endangered species, and most people can't be trusted to look after them properly.

Yes, I saw quite a few when I visted Rottnest Island many years ago. Other than that, I only see them in zoos.
