Do you report abuse?? Would you have reported this??

I've reported 5 discussions for abuse in the last 30 minutes ... 5!! All of them have been blantly stolen - no rewording, not even removal of the spelling errors and punctuation. Exactly the same discussion just copied and pasted. The stupid thing was that both would appear under each other as they would have the same keywords!! So my question is - would you have reported this as abuse? I've been told by another member of mylot that I shouldn't have done it as it's mylots problem and they'll eventually catch up with these people. I've always thought that it was up to us as a whole to do some reporting as the mylot police can't be everywhere ... or is that just my thinking??

This is very simple - I report them and after what happened to me yesterday I will not hesitate one second in reporting and repeatedly reporting cheaters on mylot. "Help out when you can. The myLot staff tries to monitor the site constantly, but we also need your eyes and ears to catch problems when they arise and report abusive behavior." http://www.mylot.com/o/guidelines.aspx

I would have reported those discussions had I seen them, and I have reported things in the past (copying and pasting other people's words is a big peeve of mine) Mylot would prefer us to report things like that as with so many things to monitor it's hard to keep track of things - by reporting it is brought to their attention and they can then follow up on it.

I can't stand copy and paste when it's used to just plagorise other peoples work. It's not too hard to think of a discussion yourself is it?

I have reported people also I think it is up to all of us to watch out for things like that. I don;t want anyone to ruin My Lot for everyone. So if I see people abusing the site I have no problem reporting them

I would have totally reported them. I do a lot of reporting. Mylot relies on us members to help keep them aware of the abuse, there is no way they could do it all alone. If they didn't want us to help out then we wouldn't have the ability to report in the first place. I see alot of copy and paste discussions and responses. the worst to me is when a person copies a part of the actual discussion and pastes it as a response to that discussion. I mean, come on, do they really think that it would go unnoticed. So I have absolutely no problem reporting anything that I feel is abuse. I think all members should do that. It is one of the biggest ways that we can help to keep MyLot a quality site.

You should definately have reported him. Copying other peoples discussions is a blatent offence..lol We all have to work together just as you said so that mylot can be made aware as soon as possible. I think you did the correct thing. That's what mylot has asked us to do... Kudos to you.

Hello Sasselle.... You did the right thing. Mylot needs and requests our help weeding out the garbage that needs to be removed. Check the do's and don'ts to see for yourself. Not reporting the things that need to be is NOT following mylots guide lines. Consider that there are 78,000+ members, multiplied by 100's possibly 1000's of topics........that can equal how many discussions per day?......or per week??? Do not feel bad about doing what you should be doing. Tom

I have no problem reporting abusers. It seems as new people sign on there is a wave of abuse. Then lots of people report it and these guys are either kicked off or leave, then there is a little peace until the new wave arrives. All Mylot users should report abuse and rate negatively if they spot abuse. This is fun forum and all of us should do our bit to keep the site a good place to be.

You did absolutely the right thing saselle, in fact I'm in hot pursuit of getting a cheater banned for ever from mylot. Hopefully its the same guy you reported because the more reports the better! It really is not acceptable since we slog to churn up good responses and these users come along copy/paste and make money. Very frustrating! I'm glad you reported the abuser and please continue to do so. No doubt mylot admin is vigilant and will spot such cheaters but at the same time mylot relies on us users to do a bit of detective work too. We aren't required to spend all our time looking for spammers and cheaters but it does make sense to report them to mylot once you come across them. And to tell you frankly, each of us IS a part of the MLPD unconsciously, because all of us have the same rights as the MLPD. The ones in MLPD announce they are a part of it but the others don't..that's the difference. I'm in the MLPD too, but I don't go around telling people I'm part of it..so you are the mylot police too...do your job!:)

I have yet to report any abuse so far. I did gave a few negative ratings on some posts that incited discrimination, hatred and use of vulgar language, even if it is in short form. We are all responsible for mylot.com to succeed as a good discussion forum. Even if the population here dwindles, if it is for the better, let it be so. It is better to have less good and serious members than a hundred thousand of members trying just to earn money with fraudulent methods.

I remember that I have reported a member that used a racist words against a religion, and other members here have reported him as well. I wonder what is going on with him now. I also reported a member that copied other member response in my discussion, and I didn't even notice until one member let me know about it, so I decided to report him as well. I think we should all do the same, because myLot can't deal with those cheaters by them selves, and they need our help. For me, myLot is like a second home, and in order to join here, I must to clean up the trash.

As a responsible mylot member I report all abuse that I see. Everyone should be doing that. To say that the MLPD or the mylot admin will catch up and to leave it alone I think is irresponsible. Mylot actually states in the guidelines they can't be every where at once and they need our help to report it to them. When members realize that they can't get away with abuse they will either change their ways or go else where either way it makes for a better community. If they don't change their ways and the abuse continues after being warned by mylot they will be banned. I say continue to report and job well done. :) As always this is just my 2 cents worth! :)

Do the responders are different ? Because I have done something like that. I post a response, and then the internet browser stopped so I have to refresh it, But before I refresh it I copied my answer and paste it in the response box and I post it. In the end I found out that my answer is double. But if you found that the responders are different, you should report it.

Nah it's not just a double up of posts - i made sure first as it's happened to me aswell ... it's clearly a different person who started each discussion and one conversation was started months before the other.

Sasselle, Thank you for starting this discussion. A discussion like this with so many responses helps us new people learn the do's and don'ts, ins and outs, etc. of mylot. I have read most of the rules but it is still much easier to understand when it is in discussion form. Also a discussion like this helps to keep others informed on what to watch out for. I see that not only do I need to be accountable to myself but to all of my fellow members also. Again thank you, I have enjoyed my short time on mylot and look forward to my online time here daily. You will make my job here and my fun time here a lot easier as I am better informed now on what I should and dhould not be doing. Thank you to all of the responders also.

Im like you my fellow mylotian.... I too report anyone i see blaintantly stealing or double posts even... I dislike this so much... do people think you get paid more to post discussions?? If they think that is the case they obviously did not read the rules and regulations very well... I am quick to report any abuse i see for one simple reason and that is... mylot is a growing community and i doubt there are enough admin to control the entirety of mylot therefore i do what i can to help out as best can be possible.

The report button on the side of each post is there for a reason. It's there for members to report discussions that are not right. This includes abuse by copying and pasting and other abuse. Mylot cannot be everywhere. If it doesn't get reported, there's a good chance it will never get taken care of.

I know there was one time when I did a response to one discussion ,then when I posted it there were two of them on there . So I guess it must of been in the system , I don't know if they took it off or not , it might have been reported for abuse ,don't know that either .I don't think I would it would have to be something against what was suppose to be in the discussion.

Well I've already discussed this. It really depends, I usually only report if I see they do it all the time by checking they're profile on their discussions and replies here, as sometimes it was a mistake. I've double posted a few times but not because I wanted to but because for some reason when I pushed the submit it submitted twice. So usually I don't report an occasional double posting as I'll usually see it's just a glitch. Spelling, well I've reported the ones that do random letters on both title and post as it's obvious they are just trying to get $. But I don't report them when they have spelling mistakes and you can sort of understand it when you can tell they were trying hard. Or a few mistakes here and there as sometimes even the spell checker doesn't catch it. And there is the issue of posts that have already been discussed, well it depends, if they are copy paste yes I will as that is stealing but when it's like you that you simply might not have known that it was discussed as sometimes we search it and it doesn't seem to show up then no as I know it is usually not our fault or we forgot to search the discussions or some other reasons that are innocent enough. It's happened to me, I search and find nothing I post and then find them. No keywording, I don't report as they might have forgot or submitted by mistake before keywording or even they couldn't remember what to put, instead I usually keyword them after I answer myself. But that is just how I do things (;

I would never consider reporting someone for spelling errors - this isn't grade school!! What I am refering to is "copy and paste" ... stealing a conversation on mylot and reusing it as your own. Exactly the same content, exactly the same header, exactly the same punctuation and exactly the same spelling errors in the text. Not a mylot glitch by the same user - this is blantly taking a thread that is a few months old and reusing it.

You sound so harsh, and I don't think you tried to understand my point of view. Or did I misunderstand you? You say you would never consider reporting people for spelling errors? So you've never made any have you? Not a single mistake, not even when you are tired?? You don't think that people that really try hard and give good responses despite grammatical error deserve a chance? My English isn't always perfect but I try and I'd say myLot helps improve it a lot! If you read everything I said you would see that I did address the copy and paste issue. But I used my own words on what I think on all those cases you stated. I was addressing the copy and paste issue entirely from double glitch posting to copy paste posting. And I wasn't trying to attack you by the way.

I ve personally come across only one abuse which I really wanted to report to mylot..But as a beginner here I didnt have any idea how to report it..But now I know how to do it and I think I will definitely do it..In my first case a part of my discussion was copied with out any change and was pasted as a response to my discussion..Im sure that person didint had any idea of the peoples I was mentioning in the discussion...May be from next time,I will give them a warning of myself and if I finds that they do the same thing I will definitely report it as abuse...its just making people who work here honestly fools which shouldnt be allowed at all...

I report abuser as I find them. Thus far, their discussions remain intact. I don't know how many people are at the receiving end of said reports, but with almost 90,000 members, I imagine it to be a daunting task.
