You have probably heard the saying; Employees don't leave their job or company, they leave their boss. But you don't realise how true it is, till you have been at receiving end . Poor managers lead to poor morale and less production.

What you can do is most organisations hold anonymous feedback sessions; give vent. You should also approach your boss' boss ; take sufficient proof along . And if all fails, consider putting in your papers . No job is worth emotional torture and political games

You are so right on! Almost all of my problems in the workplace has been because of a boss that plays favorites, is really uptight and controlling, and even downright crazy! I've even had bosses talk about me to other coworkers behind my back.

I have worked for managers who are very hard to work with, however it never had any effect on my work ethics. I'm a worker & that's what I do & it's what I'm paid for. What my boss does or does not do, don't change that. If I'm not happy, I have the option to leave, but I will work and produce until the day I do:-)

I agree on both counts.

Totally agreed, and I don't think bosses should order people to do things that they wouldn't do themselves, they should be the example sometimes, and go take out the trash, or throw down some salt on a snowy/icy day, that way when they go to ask someone else to do it, the person will be more likely to do it without a problem. I have had some good and bad bosses in my time, and I worked much harder to please the bosses I liked, and got to a point with the rude and nasty ones where I really didn't care what they thought about me anymore.

thats the reason why we should learn to start our own buisness, even a small buisness to protect our future.we dont have any life garuntee working as staff forever.im start learning to invest, once i gain enough money,i will start my own buisness and fire my boss! boss always forgot who is the frontier for their incomes, and claim theirself as most important person in their buisness.somehow, many of them succeed just because they have money to start buisness with employed fews intelligent who were really run buisness for them.

I've left jobs that I liked because the boss was abusive. If they come in and yell at everyone just because they're in a bad mood, and never appreciate good employees who are trustworthy, they don't deserve to have any good people working for them.

what you are saying is both sad and true, why do people have to do that i dont know , when we are working in the same firm we are like family but still the mangers bully their sub-ordinates.

Yes i agree. I am leaving too because of my boss not because of my job. My boss is been abusive now, being unfair with the salary and too much responsibility given without proper compensation. The treatment is very upsetting too. So i will be leaving him now, i can't take him anymore =( .

...have had changed jobs 3x before but only once because of an unfair boss. unfortunately, bad bosses, unfair bosses, bossy bosses really exists. and i always believe its never possible to ever try to change an adult individual. but sure is possible to try to make the working environment better or acceptable by talking things out - open forum is worth trying in many cases -otherwise quitting is the only option ´coz an unhealthy working environment will also be unhealty physically and emotionally...

I have never heard that saying before, but of my it is so true. I had the meanest Boss ever she was very degrading and invalidating she would talk to anyone who did not have a title as high as her title like crap. She was an Attorney I was had the experience of being her Secretary. I had to open the door for this women at all times. She was a very nasty person I had to clean up after her. I hated working for her, at her previous job someone beat her with a bat.

My boss is so unfair he doesn't pay us well. We don't receive what we really deserve. He doesn't know how to run his company. He doesn't love his employees and has no concern for us.

i truly agree with the saying. word of advice don't subject yourself to this kind of situation. if you feel you are at the receiving end inspite of the fact that you are doing your job they way it should be, get out and give your boss a piece of your mind and good riddance. there's a lot of opportunities out there.

Bad boss - Ten signs of an incompetent leader can be:

1. Delegates work rather than balancing work loads. This allows all attention to be diverted from them in case of failure.

2. Reduces answers to Yes or No rather than explaining their reasoning.

3. Cannot separate personal life from professional life. Their personal problems come to work with them.

4. Is a crisis manager not a planner.

5. Humiliates subordinates within a group.

6. Creates an environment where mistakes are unacceptable.

7. Will not stand behind subordinates when they fail.

8. Encourages hard workers, not smart workers.

9. Judges people on hours not performance.

10. Will act differently in front of their leaders.

11. Not accepting criticism (by Kornel Alfoldi)
I agree with you in many respects. I have changed jobs a few times because I did not like my boss. In one company, my boss had a drinking problem and in the 18 months I was there, about 15 people came and left, none of them staying more than 3 or 4 months. As fast as I was training them into their jobs he was upsetting them with his constant drinking all afternoon and coming into the office with a hangover and shouting at the staff the next day. The one time he swore at me for no reason I told him if he ever did that, I would walk out of the door and never return. He behaved himself with me after that. When I eventually had enough and left the company to work closer to home and for a more profesisonal company (or so I thought at the time) he said he was closing down the business as he could not find anyone like me to keep the business operational! My next boss was an arrogant man from India who set up a business here in the UK, he kept referring to us, his staff, as his servants when he spoke with his friends back home on the phone. He was an Indian Muslim and he used to insult literally all races including Indians. He would make stupid comments like "Indians are foolish, they try to blend in too much with the white people here when they really have nothing in common!" On the other hand he would tell me "We must only employ white English people, people don't want to do business with Asians or blacks!" which of course was nonsense. I left my last job because mainly I found it too stressful and got sick of being abused every day by long term unemployed people who had no intention of going for the jobs we tried to help them into as it meant they would have to get off their lazy backsides and go to work every day. My boss was a pretty nice guy but really he could have done more to make the job more bearable, we were always 25% short of staff which put more pressure on existing staff, so I guess he was the real reason I left the job! I'm just very glad I have a good boss now! Everyone likes him and that's what makes a good boss as he is fair and honest and gives praise where it's due and rewards us appropriately, i.e. monetary bonuses!
