Have you ever hired a tutor for your child?

I have a child who is a Senior in High school, he's having trouble in math. I have talked to someone at Sylvan Learning centers, and it seems expensive (to me)for 8 homework help sessions. I have a call into another service called club z tutoring. Has anyone ever looked into this for a child, or have any experiences you could share to give me some insight into this, either with these places or tutoring in genearl. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sylvan is a fantastic program and children who get to use it often do come through with excellant results. But as you said it is quite expensive. We have here in middle TN a homeowrk hotline, its a free service and what they do is hook you up to student teachers who need the tutoring experience for college grades and credits. I used a few for my middle son when he was having problems I loved it. You might want to see in your community what kind of programs are available and check out the colleges near you. Its worth the look inexpensive and just as good as a program such as Sylvan.

Thank you for your response, I have been researching to find someone local and not so expensive (I don't seem to be able to find anyone for free in my area). Thanks again.
