Hubby has a Job!

United States
March 19, 2007 9:29am CST
Hubby started work today. He is on a trial basis for two weeks. He works in a greenhouse (which he loves to do) and makes deliveries too. Now, if only I can find work too, life would be much more affordable. I have only 2 weeks left in my unemployment benefits. I pray something happens soon!

Well at least one of you is working, and hope everything works out for him so he can stay working. Have you ever thought of taking care of MRDD individuals. I know they pay pretty good and have very flexible hours. Just a thought. Sometimes all they need is help with daily living. Hope you find something soon.

I am applying with a person that has a job opening. The young adult needs help with ADL's and interaction with the community. Hopefully it pans out for me.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I just started at a home for Austistic/developmentally disabled adults. It is really a great job. I would recommend it highly.

I called on a job today to work with a young adult with developmental disabilities. They are looking for a male to work with him. Dang.

Many people in general, especially on myLot, tend to look at the negative, sad mood subjects. It is nice to see that we can be positive!! :DD

He is doing well at the job. I hope that he stays with it. He says he enjoys it. Nothing from the management has given us any doubt that he is doing a good job too.

That's excellent news...how has he gone the first couple of days? It sounds an idyllic sort of job. How awful for you both to have been out of work...was it for a long time? I'm sure things will work out for you soon too EB. Meantime you can spend more time here with us...(YAY!!)lol.

I do have an ounce of determination, but I think I need at least a 1 1/2 lb of determination these days. : )

That is wonderful news, and that kind of job can be so healthful. I wish that my hubby was doing that again. He did for six months, as contract labor. Made good money, loved the customers, loved the plants. I am sure the right job will open up for you. Prayers, and blessings too.

The job he has is seasonal work, but it pays well. We can deal with end of season woes when it happens.

Time then to sign up at the local Temporary Agency. They could get you working and then I bet you might find work that could be just what you could use. My hubby that had lost his job signed up with three of those agencies and worked those jobs til one could be found that would pay him what more he was work and could call it his own. I wish you much luck in finding that position where you could work til your retirement time.

I hope you find a job that you really like. Our economy is just wild here in Alberta Canada. Walmart is self checkout monitored by security cameras. Nobody wants to work there because they can make so much more in the oil patch. My great aunt and uncle live in a town called Fort McMurray. They have lived there for years. NO one can afford to even rent an apartment alone. So they are luck because they bought and paid for thier home 30 years ago. Last summer my youngest son and his friend stayed with them and were making $21.00 to work at MacDonalds!!!!!! This economy will not last for ever. It ebbs and flows, but in the meantime there are not enough people to fill all of the jobs. Crazy huh?

I know what you talking about. I got laid off about 8 months ago and my unemployment ran out about 2 months ago. Since it ran out right after Christmas it was a bad time to find work. I am finally starting to find some jobs I could apply for. Good luck in finding a job.
