Does anyone have any good places to pick up clothing patterns for costumes or things like trim, buttons, boing, ect. with out spending an arm and a leg. I am paricularly interested in patterns from the 1600's. Thanks

If you have a Joann fabric store near you, they will run Simplicity or McCall's patterns on sale for $1.99 or even $.99 quite often! I've purchased a lot of patterns this way. I wish they sold them online, but alas, they don't. I think you could check out the individual pattern sites www.simplicity.com or www.mccallspatterns.com and see what prices they offer. I've found them for 1/2 price at times. I think I have a renaissance dress pattern that I purchased on ebay. Another good place to look! Best of luck to you!!

I shop at Hobby Lobby and Hancock's Fabric Stores. Like this week Hobby Lobby is selling their Simplicity patterns for $0.99 each. I bought 2 today. Also you might try like a salvation army, goodwill, flea markets, ebay, and good old fashion yard sales. I have gotten lots of different things for crafting and sewing from places like this pretty cheap. My grandmother found one bag of ribbon remnants a pretty large one for I think she said $0.50 at a place like goodwill where they live in texas. I hope that this helps.

I love thrift stores for trims, and sometimes even the patterns. I have found great buttons on things for very little. I get some strange looks sometimes as I am very large and I will find some very nice trim or buttons on a small size garment. I like using the nicer fabric into other projects like pillows and tote bags. Zippers are also a good thing to salvage out of used items. Just make sure they work well before purchasing.

I'll try that. Buttons are tough for me because I usually need bunches of one type. Thanks for the ideas

well my favorite place to pick up any of my crafting supplies is hobby lobby their prices are not that expensive and you can always go on the internet and find a coupon for them theyre really good coupons sometimes offering like forty percent off the regular price and if you sign up for ac moores emails they will often send you great deals the only place that i can think of that you could find pattern from that far back would probably be on the internet
