If you're truly on a budget, try your local Freecycle group. Someone recommended it to me and even though my couch needs springs and has some tears, it works well (actually, it's too big for my living room!). All you really need is to have transportation (great time to make friends with the guy down the street that has lots of big muscles and a truck!) If you don't like it, slip cover it! Slip covers have got to be the greatest invention for redecorating on a budget that's really tight--updates the look for little money!

I'd say D, but only on one condition. Where I live, there is a lot of construction going on and lots of wealthy people are moving into new housing communities. Often, these places will have a community wide "garage sale," and let me tell ya, these people sell things that people on a shorter budget would still consider new. They might get rid of a living room suite simply because they don't like it anymore or it might not match their redecorated living room. I wouldn't, however, go to any old garage sale to buy a couch.

Like the poster above me, I also would recommend Freecycle first, its amazing how often people have perfectly good things that they would be more than happy to see go to a new home. I've given away good stuff myslef on Freecycle and have been very happy to be gifted things I really needed but couldnt afford.

In my area, I would check the Penny Saver, as there is one in there right now. I did go out and look at it, but its to big for the room. It is almost new and looks like it hasn't been sat on anymore than the ones in the store. I'm trying to find a small one for my office.
One more place many of my friends look is the newspaper to find out where the estate sales are located. I live in an area where there are many homes over million dollars, so finding a good deal in any of your listed choices can be difficult.
I do check furniture close out sales, as you can get a good deal, specially if you aren't picky about brand. I have visited garage sales, but you have to be there at 7:00am in this area, as the best deals are gone quickly. If you like to sleep in until 10:00am like me, then you would be wasting gas, which is over $3.00 a gallon here to visit garage sales.

I don't really know going on my options :)
I have found the best place to go to - is a big furniture store because you can buy all the couches that have on display - just because a few people tested it out for comfort & their butts have been in the chair, you can get it for more than 50% off the retail price! In most cases it's more like 75% off.
Here in Australia there are also stores that sell last seasons stock which means BIG BARGAINS or you can go to other places where you can save around 75% just because there's a teeny weeny scratch on the wood! You just have to know where to look i think!
I'm not keen on buying someone else's couch at a garage sale coz you don't know what animals have been in there, what's been spilt or anything like that.
I'd probably choose B - from your 4 options though!
