I love ice cream and sometimes eating it too quickly can cause a brainfreeze. This topic came about yesterday afternoon went to Baskin Robbins for the first time this year and got me a ice cream cone. After a few licks from the ice cream, I got a brainfreeze...lol...Now I know this has happen to some of us, and it's no fun during that time. lol It comes from something very cold touching the center part of your palate. The cold temperture can set off certain nerves that control how much blood flows to your head. The nerves respond by causing the blood vessels in the head to swell up. Interesting huh? This pressure causes your head to pound and hurt, that's where the brain freeze comes in to play, which is what most of us call it. So anyone experience a severe brainfreeze? What other foods or drinks have your eaten that gave you a brainfreeze? Please share any stories if you have any.

Oh soda never done it for me, But man, I could only imagine. I guess he's drinking some really cold pop. But, a hot summer day and going to get some ice cream, that sounds great, until I'm too hot and then try to cool down and eat the ice cream to fast. I had one really aweful experience that now I make sure I'm taking my time..lol

I get them for milkshakes, too. I usually cover my mouth with my hand and breathe in and out the warm air already there. It stops it immediately. Or, I touch my tongue to the top of my mouth. It also stops pretty fast. If there is warm water, I might swish that on the top of my mouth, too.

I have never heard such a thing. Are you serious about this? The only thing that I have experinced is my windpipe freezing and feeling it go down coldly.

I have never had a brainfreeze as I can't afford one because I love eating icecreams , but I have had what you might like to call tonguefreeze. The technical term for it is speechless. It happens when my brain freezes and can't communicate with my tongue or fingers in this case :-P Thanks for the information.I think it is the branch of 7th cranial nerve.

Well aren't you the lucky one. I had one that I just wanted to just lay there and let it pass, but I was in public, I had to suck it up and just let it do it's thing. I normally slow down real quick..lol
