Why don't people say what they mean?

So many people drop hints instead of just asking for something. For example, a person talks about moving and how much work it is for only one person instead of just asking, "Will you please help me move?" or a person talks about how lonely his dog will be while he is on vacation instead of saying, "Will you feed my dog while I'm on vacation?". I have noticed this a lot lately. I don't understand why people don't just say what they want to say instead of wasting time and trying to get the other person to offer so they don't have to ask? It's really irritating to me. Does this happen to you? Why do people do this?

People are very afraid of rejection. They will feel you out first to see if there is a possibility of getting a yes to their question. Very bold peope rub people the wrong way and are generally disliked. I think that people generally want to be liked.

I have reted your posting here! But at the same time I want that besides your saying you must try to understand whats behind the curtain .. I mean why people dont say directly and put things indirectly! Some time it is based on relations, catagorical friendship, likings, dislikings, unknown situation etc., etc., etc.! It is vary in sayings and some how this is the interesting things we humans have! So dont irritate and get the rid of this varietie of human communicationcapacities and abilities!

I think most people are afraid of rejection, they don't want you to say 'no' to them so they hope that you will instead offer to help them. Others just don't like to ask for help, or don't want to take advantage of you or your friendship so instead of putting you in the awkward position of saying 'no,' they will instead wait for someone to volunteer to help them. It can be maddening I know, but I've done that myself. More often then not however it is I who am volunteering to help because they just keep beating around the bush.
