Young children and make up

These days it appears that really young kids are starting to wear make up as well. I meant full make up with all the eye shadow, mascara and lipstick. I find that it's a bit too excessive. Kids that age should be enjoying their childhood instead of worrying about looking pretty. Personally I think it would be ok if they were just wearing some lip gloss or lip tint when they go out. But their faces shouldn't be hidden under a tonne of war paint. Do you allow your young kids to wear make up? Why and why not? Do you think kids should be wearing make up in the first place? Please share your stories. Thanks.

In another discussion of yours I said that animals are animals and we humans have to respect their nature. Now I say the same thing: children are children and they should go on living as children. I like make up very much, but it isn't for children. You are right, I'm Italian and in my country there are some children wearing make up, they are only a few, but there are some of them doing so. There are some fashion dolls as "Bratz" who are dolls with a lot of make up, the young girls should play with their dolls and making up them not themselves with the make up of their dolls. To me it's too early for them.

I find this quite worrying.I have two daughters one 7 the other 5 and both of them have come home from school wanting to wear makeup. I worry about the sexualization of children in this way and think a lot of it is media driven. I know it may be old fashioned but i dont want them wearing makeup of any kind before they are 16 years old. Even then it should only be because they want to wear it, not because they are pressured in to it because someone else wants to sell something Blessed be

I think letting little girls wear full make up at a young age is a bad idea. Think about it for a minute. If they can wear make up at 8 or 10 years old, what do they have to look forward to at 13 years old? Something more mature than make up. Our children are growing up way too fast as it is. I think a clear lip gloss is ok for a little girl. Also, a light colored nail polish if they are really into that kind of thing. If they want to wear full make up around the house as a play activity, that's a different story. Hopefully they are playing with their Mommy or sister. If I had a daughter she wouldn't be wearing full make up until she was at least in the eighth grade. LOL, funny, that was the rule in my parents house. :)
