Do you wait for the postman to come everyday? Do you know at what times he drops your mail? Do you know his name? Do you chat with your mailman/woman? Till sometime ago I used to wait for the mailman, I knew exactly what time he came and left, I would chat with him often and if I needed to mail any letters I would pass them on to him. I always felt mailmen were deligent in their duty and never really took a day off. They work 6 days a week and even in rain, sleet, snow or burning sun they always deliver mail, infact some of them are so cheerful that they put me to shame! How have your experiences with mailmen/women been? Have you ever lost mail? have you ever been home and before you reach to answer the door the mailman has left with your package and then had to wait for another 24 hours just to get your package? Are they always good or sometimes you get the grumpy mailman. does your dog wag his/her tail for the mailman or do they chase him endlessly? Do share your thoughts

If there's an election on the best mailman and office, I'll definitely vote for one in my town. Our post office has excellent staff....I've never heard them grumpy nor take the easy way to solve a complaint. They always helpfull, smiling, friendly and treated everybody like a family. It goes the same with the mailman. I haven't lost any mail nor package, yet (cross my finger for that). When I'm not home....he/she'll just leave them in the garden hut next to my house....so I don't have to go to post office to pick it up (except for sign ones). Once a year (on a special occasion) we will always give them a gift (mostly a basket full of goodies and yummy stuff) otherwise we'll bring a big cake to the post office for them to share....just to show our appreciation and that they are doing a good job !!!

That is so nice giving gifts.... also I like the idea of appreciating the job they do by voting for the best mailman/woman.

My experience is that postman is the most loved person in our place. If you want to get anything from any public or private enterprises, just tell him to help you. He will do his best to complete your mission than any powerful people in the area

Ah I know the kind of mailman you are talking about they are caring and they are the ones you feel like inviting in for a cup of coffee, yep I have met these kind too but they are always in such hurry that even if you ask them in they nod their head saying duty calls! They are so powerful and yet so kind.

I used to meet our postman (oh sometimes it is a post woman) regularly, walking through the front street but he rarely throws mails to my door. Because after internet and email became common postmsn's jobs reduced to delivery of bills, magazines or books, some leagal notices, marriage invitations etc. Earlier they had huge bags filled but now a days it is only a handful. They are always good to me. I don't have a dog or cat.. so no worry for mailmen :-) Once one of my friend from the US send me a parcel containing his book and a watch as his gift for me. I went to the post office to collect it as it was a registered parcel. When I got the parcel I found one side of the packet was torn and only the watch was missing. I made a complaint but of no use.

yeah I know when gets lost, it is just lost there is not much anything can be done about it. Yes you are so right about writing letters becoming lost art, but during festival season or new year time I always send cards to all my friends not the e-card. But all my close friends would get a hand written card from me.

It depends on who the postman will drop my mails. I have a mailbox and any kind of mails will arrive anytime of the day. No particular time really. I can't say that I like the way of the postman here. They can be rude at times. They will keep ringing my doorbell and when I go out and check, the mail is usually not for me. The postman will said that he just randomly rang any doorbells so anyone can open the main gate for him. There is a number for each mailbox and I don't think they're eyes are clear enough to see those numbers. "sigh"

The postmen who bring my emails keep changing almost everyday and so does their time.I don't know their names ,except one of them who is a boy and trying to learn to sell insurance. He was very enthusiastic when he approached me.I have promised him that I would talk about it to some of my friends.I don't know if anyone would buy from such a young boy ,but I didn't want to say 'no thanks' because I already got a friend from whom I buy insurance.Yes,they are very dilligent and a great inspiration to all of us.I have missed a few of my emails ,but they came back the next day if it was a parcel.Even in this age when internet has become an intrinsic part of our lives we still depend on our postmen and they serve the us without ever complaining about the weather.

Bluewings that was very nice of you, but look at the bo's enthusiasm about making a little more money his job as a postman gets him to meet a lot of people and to add something like a life insurance policy selling to his customers is such a nice but an easy way to make money. So he does 2 jobs which does not eat into each other's time and earn from both.... what a great idea!

I never see my postman unless I happen to bump into him (or her). This postman dumps letters for the entire flat at a fixed time range. The postal service in Singapore is pretty reliable. We just collect our mails once a day and they always come in. ;-)

Yeah it is reliable in US too but I often get to meet my postman and many a time I don't have to go to a post box to mail my letters I simply hand it over to the postman who delivers my mail and my letters reach their destination, no sweat at all... and yes they deliver mail for all of the condos at the same fixed time everyday!
