i definately believe in animal rights, there are those that go to the extreme, but after seeing a video about what china does to the animals in fur trading, i would rather that then see that happening, its gruesome and horrible

I would be very interested to find out what responsiblities are expected of a new-born child in exchange for his or her right to life, as according to iiartisanii there can be no rights without responsibilities. If there are such responsibilities for a new-born child, they must be so basic as to be within the capabilities of many different animals, or else there must be no responsiblities at all. Animal rights is not about according the same rights as humans to animals. Animal rights activists propose relevant rights. I am yet to see any example of an animal rights group arging that an election result is unrepresentative because animals were not included. Instead, animal rights activists recognise which rights are relevant to the animals. The right to life or to be free from pain and suffering makes a difference to animals, the right to education does not! (They have their own means of passing on information and skills that do not involve sitting in a classroom!) In many ways the rights which would thus be "allowed" to animals would be similar to those "allowed" to a young child. Rights is not about acknowledgeing that every being covered by the term has the right to vote, to education, to freedom of expression, as well as to life, etc. Rights can be applied in the singular (where I would argue that the right to life is the most important because it is the right upon which all others depend), or plurally depending on which are reasonable. The fact that the right to vote is useless for your average dog does not deny that the dog may have a right to life. I believe that there are no morally relevant differences between human animals and non-human animals that justify the negation of the right to life - if we hold it true that humans have a right to life, then non-human animals do too.

i believe that as we humans have the right to live so are the animals. We have to respect their rights too. But there are animals that we here in the world for human's food so we have also to take into consideration these things

I am very much in favour of animal rights, well I would say animal welfare would be my preferred description. I think this is especially important where animals are reared for food. I think it is shocking from a western point of view, to see some of the street markets in China and Thailand etc where live animals are traded. These animals really must be so fearful, they are not handled or treated with any care whatsoever and I find that shocking. Having said that, western countries are often no better, especially in the factory farming environments, it seems that as soon as money becomes involved, the welfare of the animal is lost.

I know sometimes animal activists can get carried away, back to your question if animals should have a right to live, a definite yes, there should be no doubt. My dogs are giving me unconditional love every day. I'm not going to say anything further, because then I will sound like an activist, but believe you me if I see cruelty, oh boy I will keep you busy for a good few hours:)

Animals are considered property and thus do not have rights. Having rights means that you have responsibilities. I do not know any animals that have any responsibilities. I firmly believe in animal WELFARE, in that a human does not have the right to harm an animal or otherwise impede on its quality of life. If animals had rights, they would be able to vote, own property, inherit property, protest "no dog" rules in court, and decide if it runs away from home, you are not allowed to chase it. But only if its over 18! As you can see, this is absolutely incredulous and anyone who believes that animals have "rights" should reconsider looking up the definition of "rights" on Wikipedia.

I agree with what you are saying. I think animals deserve rights but sometimes PETA goes too far and they are too dramatic so people don't take them seriously. They are sometimes too controversial and this is no way to get thinking people to change their views.

yes i am in favour of giving animals their rights. Since they are animals, they could not differnciate between good and bad but still they have feelings for which we have to care them by giving them their rights......
