or at least of the computer. He is sitting on the desk and periodically reaches out a paw and claws at my hand or actually hooks it, as if to say, stop that, and pet me.

I think my cat is the opposite, he likes that I will sit longer in front of the computer. He will just climb up into my lap and purr and purr, and I pet him while I am reading. It's funny, because he is not usually a "lap-cat" and rarely sits on my lap anywhere else, but will sit beside me instead. It's sort of become our bonding time each day.

That is so funny!! My cat doesn't care if I am on the computer but my 2 year old little boy will come over and take my hand off of the mouse, push me out of the chair and push it back into the desk so I can't sit back down, then smile at me like he has accomplished his goal!!

Well - I have not owned a cat, except for when I was VERY young. I did own two dogs at separate times, however. The first dog, I had no computer at the time, but the second dog used to come over to me & make her little squeaky noises for attention. Being that a lot of my computer stuff was mostly done with the computer mouse, I used to have her come over & rest her head on my lap, & while one hand was maneuvering the mouse, the other hand was petting her. I have cat-sat since then. I was chatting in a chatroom, & the cat decided to take a stroll across the keyboard & sent a bunch of gibberish into the chatroom, leaving me to explain myself: "Sorry, I'm cat sitting, & the cat decided to take a stroll across my keyboard."

I have the most trouble when I am using the laptop, because the cats believe that they should be the "laptop". I think they also like the heat it gives off.

Lmao, as I sat here reading your discussion, I couldn't help but to laugh too hard at it. Thank you for that piece of banter. This is not something I see here on mylot.com Wow, that's was something absolutely necessarily needed to break the tension if there is or was any on mylot. Yeah, that sounds like he's trying to say "back off mouse!" "go fetch some cheese somewhere else"!

My cat on top of computer. - Cat on computer with images of three of my cats on screen
This is so funny one of my cats does the same thing she pokes me and meows. I have another that sits on the desk in front of me then there is one that sits right on top of the computer and I have to keep moving her tail. This is a picture of her on top of it.

You got yourself a very jealous cat, LOL!!! My bunny is also the same. He will keep hopping on my side and stay on my feet. While I'm burning my fingers pounding on my keyboard, I need to lift my leg up and use my feet to caress my bunny. I'm doing a lot of exercises, if you ask me. :)

Hehehe, my little girl does it too. She actually holds onto it, and I cannot move. Sometimes she will walk over the keyboard, to put her two sence in.

It seems that it is not only our spouses that are jealous of myLot but the cats and dogs also. Every time my husband takes a cup of tea into me he bashses the keys on my keyboard. I am just waiting for one of my responses to go through before I am finished typing it...lol.

Don't you love it when they pay attention to you like that? When my smoochy Banjo boy wants to be close, he curls up on the spare office chair next to my desk or in the office bin. If he wants to annoy me he sits beside the monitor and rests on my mouse. If he's being really obnoxious he gets underneath at the back of the keyboard and swipes at me, nearly scaring the life out of me or he gets in amongst my books and cds underneath and claws me. It's usually a not so subtle message that he's hungry or wants to go outside. I love that he communicates with me so easily and readily.

Moomin does this all the time, she thinks that if she sits on the desk and walk over the keyboard I will take more notice of her.

I love the responses to this discussion. A lot of animal lovers on myLot, and a lot of social behaviors by pets.

I love it when cats do cute, funny things! I think hat the computer thing is that he wants attention and is maybe curious about a hard screen with light coming from it. It's an alien thing to a cat! My Cat often does some funny things like opening our garbage. You see, our garbage is opened by a slideout mechanism. You have to really PULL to open it. But, even so, My cat STILL breaks into it! I once even got it on video. Once he realized hje was on film, he jumped for the top of the fridge, his main Habitat. Lol!

Yes, my cat does that too! Also if I am writing with a pen, he'll come and try to steal the pen and knock it off the table. And if I am reading at the table, he'll come and lay on top of my book or newspaper! He's like, "Why would you want to look at anything besides me?"

I think my two cats get annoyed at me for being in front of the computer so much--LOL--my one cat hates it when I'm the phone--like he get jealous that I'm actually talking to someone else and not him--he has to come over everytime I do talk on the phone...its a wonder he doesn't disconnect me at times!

That's too funny!! My one cat basically does the same thing and seems to be jealous or something. He's a huuuuuuge cat, and if I'm not paying attention to him when he wants it, he stands on his hind legs and bats the paper holder off of my printer (and sends it flying across the room!) Yesterday I was sitting typing and he wanted fed, so he grabbed the cup that I use to carry the cat chow to his dish and deposited it on my lap...talk about a hint, lol. Oh well, at least we know we're loved and missed!

My dogs know when I close the lid of my computer at night it is bedtime as they both run to the bedroom door. Isn't amazing how animals respond to our actions that they have never been trained to do.

Yes, that's attention seeking. He wants his cuddle & pay, and your typing is stpping him from getting what he deserves. My litlle black & white cat will occasionally climb on my shoulder, & smooch around me neck when I am on the computer. I rated your photo & wrote a comment about the very cute cat.

I believe you, because here by me is a very jealous little Jack Russell, he sits there and whine and then I ignore him, he moans louder and louder, until I get up and pat and play with him, this has now become a ritual:)

LOL my cat Bailey is fascinated by what's going on in the monitor and often gets closer covering the whole thing. Fluffy doesn't really care much, but Bailey seems like a small kid, like when we answer the phone they suddenly come up with all those things that they need urgently hehehe Often Bailey decides he wants to be on my lap when I'm on the computer or tries to catch my attention somehow. Usually I use that time to take a break and play a little with him. It's good to have a reminder that we might have been in front of the computer for a bit long LOL

hihi Just set yourself some limits ...don't just forget for how much time you were at the computer. tell yourself for example :"today i'll spend 2 hours with the computer..or with MYlot ..or whatever" ..so neither your cat will be upset ..and nor your small child( aaa can't wait to have one of my own :P :)
