I am an IDIOT....

Fried Eggs - When frying eggs always keep your hands out of the hot oil. Putting your finger in it will cause a burn..I know ..I just did it...lol

I was just in the kitchen fixing some lunch. I decided to have two fried eggs and toast. I put some olive oil in the frying pan and turned on the burner. The oil wasn't spreading to a little spot in the pan...so.... I used my finger to spread it around... Not the brightest thing I've done today...now my poor finger is burned...lol What kind of intelligent person would put their finger in a frying pan with hot oil...me the idiot...lol Have you ever done something stupid like that while cooking and get hurt?

Nah. What you did was not half as stupid as I did. I used to stay in the boarding school and we had a common pantry. I got hungry once and decided to cook some instant noodles. So I borrowed a pot and tried to microwave the noodles. Guess what? This pot was metal, and metal and the microwave oven are not really good friends. I stopped the cooking halfway after sparks being to fly and smells begin to emerge. The smell of burnt metal lingered in the pantry for more than a week. And I am condemned for that entire week. How's that for something stupid? :P

haha. Thanks a lot you made me laugh today. You should've atleast used the spoon to spread it around. I once turned on the gas and started to light the burner.Ok i had some issues getting the flame from the match stick since i'm a guy and i'm not used to it much. Then after a delay of 6-7 seconds i finally got it and tried to light the burner. To my biggest surprise it just flammed up to a meter or so.It actually got me the shiver down my spine. It even left black marks on my face like one of those cartoons.lol. Man,i can never forget it.

I truly feel your pain as I have done many such idiotic things. Probably the worst was after frying bacon, I took the pan full of grease directly off the burner and outside to dump it. There was a strong wind blowing, and instead of turning so the wind would blow the still-sizzling grease away from me I dumped it right into the wind. I ended up with third degree burns to my right thumb extending down past my wrist. It took several months to heal properly. I do not however get along well with those decorative tin burner covers. I did the gallon of milk thing once when cooking Kraft mac n cheese. I put the milk on the back burner which was covered and then mistakenly turned that same burner on thinking I was turning on the front burner with the pot on it. Needless to say we had to make a trip for burner covers and milk later on.

I think I have done that many times, as I sometimes would test if I could resist the heat of an oil burning hot!;) Whenever I tell this to my friends, they always try to laugh at me. Because they do know that I know my ways around the kitchen, so why do I have to let myself get burned. It's alright, I know that it's just a test and that I can always avoid it if I want to. I'm just curious, because I've seen a person here in my country, who actually fry different kinds of food using his bare hands. I don't consider that person not intelligent or as what you call yourself;), I consider him as skilled and does possess a unique talent.

YOu do realize that the best way to test to see if the oil is hot is to drop a drop of water into the oil and see if it sizzles -- right? I hate the idea that you are burning yourself when it is so easy to test...

Don't feel bad. I tried to catch a pie with my bare hands once. I burned one of my hands quit badly that time. My son felt he should take it out of the oven since the timer had gone off. I was not in the kitchen at the time and to my horror there he was taking a pie out of the oven. He was being wobbly with it and sure enough it started to fall. I did not want it to land on him so I put out my hands to deflect it. That was so scary. He cried so hard. He felt so badly that I had been burned. I was just glad it was not him.

Ouch! Your poor finger-- hope the burn wasn't too bad. Some years ago I was cooking a lasagna, and the phone rang right before the timer to take it our of the oven went off. As my friend on the phone was of the "chatty" persuasion, I told her I needed to get something out of the oven-- but I was distracted and in a hurry, so I just opened the oven door and reached right in to remove the pan-- withOUT towels or hotpads. THAT hurt. But I got the lasagna out, and finished to phone call while running cold water over my fingers.

Lol, I can safely say that of all the times I've ever burned myself I've never managed it that way LOL. I am sorry you burned yourself but it's kind of funny the way we just don't think sometimes. I ALWAYS without fail manage to burn my hand on the oven door lol. We have a door that opens downwards, and for whatever reason, I never seem to realize that when I put my fingertips on the inside to balance myself as I bend down, it will burn and hurt! I've split hot coffee and tea all down myself too many times to mention, and as a child I had a rather nasty accident with a bowl of soup. I was wearing a bikini. It was a hot day and I'd been out in the garden with my sister and friends throwing water all over each other. I had long long hair right the way down past my rear end, and for whatever reason I refused to have it tied up. Mom made soup for lunch and called us in for it. I took my bowl of soup into the living room, went to sit on the sofa, managed instead to sit on my hair jerking my head back and spilling scalding hot soup all down my front onto my bare skin. How I cried! I ended up laying on the bed with mom laying cool wet towels over me to take the sting away. I had large blistered patches of skin that were bright red. They did eventually fade and I have no scars so I was extremely lucky, but I had my hair cut off very shortly thereafter.

Sounds very similar to my recent thermometer incident. I was given a digital probe-style thermometer recently and was very excited (I'm a huge kitchen nerd). The first time I used it, I decided to pull it out using my bare hands. Would not have been a problem if the themometer probe hadn't been sitting in a 400 F oven for an hour and a half.... OUCH! But.... I've got terrible kitchen luck. I've unwittingly microwaved sticks of butter wrapped in foil. Thank god I was very close to the microwave and saw the initial sparks! I also sliced off a hunk of my thumb recently. I finally bought a mandoline (the kitchen tool) and was all set to go, with a lot of veggies to slice up. I decided after a few summer squashes that I didn't need the finger guard anymore. BAD IDEA! now I have a really rad looking scar on my thumb.

I have to say I have done something just as silly and felt so incredibly done. I worked at a restaurant called WaffleHouse here and I was cooking for the night. Well, it was a slow night and I was making my meal for my break and talking to my coworker. While I wasn't paying attention, I decided to make a point regarding something in the discussion. Next thing I know I have placed my hand fully down palm flat on the hot grill. As you might have guessed a grill at a restaurant that is open 24 hours a day is quite HOT and well my hand was quite burned. I ended up with 3rd degree burns on my hand. What hurt more was my pride not my hand.

Hhaha, you are funny girl. But, you do not stand alone in things like that. I have done the same thing with the oil. I have even picked up the egg or pancakes with my fingers, instead of a spatula. I think when we are doing a few things at the same time, or rushing, we absentmindly do that. I hope that you put some vitamin e oil on your finger. It will remove the sting, and heal it faster. +++ for you again sugar.

Ohh mari, I am sorry for your accident. I hate when I get burn my hand or finger. It's so annoying and painful. Hope you feel better soon. I did not do anything like this yet, but onece one of my friend did. He was working on kitchen and after he turned the swithch of he put his hand on the stove. Yes, he got a very bad burn. He did it because he wanted to put some plastic thing on the top of the stove and he was testing that the clils got cold or not LOL.

About the most brilliant thing I have done (well don't know if I would call it brilliant) is place a pot holder absent mindely on a burner I had just turned off. Ended up catching the darn thing of fire. So far haven't burned myself, but have been splattered with hot grease and do know that freakin hurts. I hope your finger heals quickly.

Well i don't know if this is more silly but once i lost my driver's license and for a week driving w/o one. But i still insist in driving. Now looking back at it, I feel lucky I never had accidents or got caught by traffic police. I still feel stupid thinking about it. Specially the one incident where I almost ran over a kid. It gives me goose bumps even now. Boy was I lucky & stupid at the same time.
