For students this could be baby sitting, For me, I worked in a factory at 17 and had to fit nuts and bolts together, they were inside parts for locks, I hated it and found another job real fast. Within two months I was working as a filing clerk for an insurance company. What was the first job you ever had and tell us about it?

I was lucky my parents had a business and I worked for them. They sold picture frames wholesale. I actually did some framing for them.

I worked in a popcorn factory for a cavern for my first job. We also made souvenirs for the caverns. Semis would bring us popcorn cobs and we would have to shuck them and get them ready to make popcorn. The popcorn pos right off of the cob when you microwave it in a bag. We made rock candy that grew on a stick too. We also made rings and necklaces out of gem stones. I ended up in shipping and receiving before I left there and had my daughter.

I started out babysitting for my family and for the neighborhood families. I got involved in volunteering at a young age also. However, my first "real" job was when I was 16. I worked at Dillon's Grocery Store as a grocery bagger. I would ask the infamous question, "Paper or Plastic?", sack your groceries, and carry them out to your car. It was a fun job at the time and it helped pay for the extra things teens "need".

I was doing my masters and that was the day of my dissertation i had a call from my parents asking me to immediately come back home and pack my luggage to leave to some other place. I was very much puzzled but still gave my Head of the Department a letter asking me to allow one of my friends to submit my records and stuff on behalf of me. I came back home and i was all surprised to find a job offer which was really a cool offer, it was a government Organization and i was offered a very good pay scale. Filled with joy i went and joined the job and it was new to me off course but still i loved working there. I worked as a web programmer and that was for 1 year contract. Thanks for such a nice discussion which made me remember my happy days once again.

I did babysit a few times, but it wasn't really a job. My first real job, which only lasted 3 weeks, thank God, was also in a factory. I had to wait for the machine to separate the brochures into packs of 50, and then put an elastic around every pack and box them. Can you spell b-o-r-i-n-g?? I hated it with a passion, and luckily for me, my cousin's gf called me up and said they needed people at her work (she was superviser in a supermarket)Do i have to tell you that i ran over there , filled up an application and was hired the next week? I was so happy! No more factory!!

Well I started working a little late. I was 21 years old when I had my firsh job as a Quality Assurance Inspector in a manufacturing company. At first I find the job really hard I could almost cry everyday before I go to work and after my shift but then I found myself enjoying it after maybe a couple of weeks plus my co workers are wonderful and they really let you feel at home.

My first job that I had was working as a waitress. It was in a greek restaurant. I didn't like it much, serving people all of the time. I enjoy serving friends, family and guests in my home, but not for a living. There is nothing wrong with it, but for me, I didn't enjoy it. Now I go to all-inclusive resorts twice a year, and have people serve me instead.

My first job besides baby sitting was a carhop at A&W. I didn't so well there I got fired after my second day but I did meet my first husband. So all in all I would say it was total loss. lol

While I did baby-sit a lot for relatives and have done a lot of volunteer work through school-related organizations, the first paying job I got was when I was in high school. I got a job as an admin assistant in a family law firm. But, in reality, I was the secretary's assistant's assistant. My direct supervisor quit two months into my job, so I had an automatic promotion to the secretary's assistant, which had absolutely no difference at all. I basically did all the filing, archiving, lunch orders, fixing of the copy/fax machines, and so on. It really wasn't too bad, though, and I liked the people I worked with. I stayed until I left town for college.

I was really lucky we were very poor & when I was 14 a work couselor came to my school. She set me up with a job as a librarians assitant. I made more money then than I ever have since & I really enjoyed the work to the point I would spend all my extra time there.

My first job was through High School. I helped at the Elementary school with arranging the bulletin board in the office, and sometimes I was a teacher's aide in the 1st and 2nd graders rooms. I think I made $2.15 an hour and it was only for 2 hours after school. Then I worked part time at the school district filing.

My first job (other than the usual babysitting as a teen), was as a mother's helper. I started around 7:00 a.m., and worked until 7:00 in the evening. I totally cared for a 9 mo. old boy, and a 4 yr. old girl, because the mom was in bed at home, after having a blood clot. Eventually she was able to go back to work, and I stayed on for awhile. I also did laundry, ironing, vacuuming, and some cooking for them. I was paid $20.00 a week, which even back in those days, was considered minimal to say the least. However, this was a long time ago now ... back in the 70's. I also worked at the CNE in Toronto, one summer. You may be familiar with this annual exhibition winterose. That was a fun (for the most part) job, and I even got to make cotton candy.
