A thread about pizza reminded me of anchovies. Do you enjoy them? I quite like them on pizza or in things, but I don't care for them eaten straight out of the brine. What about you?

i never tried any anchovies on the pizza but in my country we eat anchovy often. It is even almost everyday peoples eat them. Our very famous dish for breakfast called nasi lemak contained the fried anchovies and poured with the dried chili gravy really tasty and makes the rice which is cooked in the coconut milk taste very nice. We cook anchovies in several different styles and i love them.

I disliked them very much as a child, mother always bought the tube of anchovie paste...yeck! but have recently started putting them on our friday meatless pizzas. A little bit goes a long way due to the saltiness of them and one small tin can cover a couple very large pizzas. The whole family is enjoying them very much. even the oil in the tin is great to dip the thick pizza crust into.

Uck, no not a tall. I used to work at a pizza place and of course we served anchovies. I hated having to put them on because they were long and slimy and oily and made our hands stink for hours! I have never cared for any seafood out of a can, without the exception of tuna fish.

I find them a bit too salty for me most of the time, but occasionally I like to eat them. Usually on pizza or mixed with other stuff.

I actually love anchovies! I like them on pizza and I also like them in my pasta sauce. I'll even eat them plain on some nice crusty bread with a piece of cheese.
I usually get the fillets in oil. That is the most common way you see them in the US I think.
Here is a recipe for a pasta dish that I love...
Spaghettini con acciughe
1 lb spaghettini
1 2oz can anchovy fillets packed in oil, drained and chopped
4 T extra virgin olive oil
2 T fresh parsley, chopped
1 can Italian stewed tomatoes
Heat the olive oil in a pan large enough to eventually hold the sauce and the pasta.
Add the anchovy to the hot oil over medium heat and mash anchovy into a paste with a wooden spoon or fork. Add the canned tomotes crushing lightly and let simmer.
Meanwhile, cook the pasta.
Drain lightly when cooked al dente.
Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water.
Pour the lightly drained pasta into the pan with the olive oil/anchovy/tomato sauce, generous grinding of pepper and parsley. Toss ingredients and combine well.
Serve out of the pan or transfer into a warm serving bowl.
Serve immediately.

I also do not eating them straight out of the can. I heard that a true Caesar salad has anchovies in it so I tried this and found it quite tasty. I have only had them on pizza a few times and I enjoyed them the times that I did this.

Actually, I don't like anchovies because I can get over the fact that there are little bones in them. I know the whole thing is ediable...but I can not get myself to eat it because of the texture.
I don't look gross at people that do eat them. But I just know it is not for me. :)

We consume dried anchovies. There are many varieties of anchovies. Preserved or packed in brine is not popular here. Anchovies are consumed everyday. Anchovies can be consumed with peanuts, fried eggs, fried potatoes and rice. Yummy, yummy.

I haven't tried anchovies on pizza but where I came from dried anchovies are popular. It is usually mixed with fried peanuts and chili paste. Its used in local dishes particularly in one local dish called "nasi lemak".
