Football Violence

Once again Italian supporters cause violence in Europe. This time it is against Man Utd fans. The Italian Police quite clearly attacked the Man UTd fans and ignored the Italian hooligans that started the violence. This is not the first time. It has been going on for over twenty years but the Italian hooligans and their violent Police force always get away with it. All Italian teams should be banned from Europe.

I am not a huge football fan, in that I don't support any specific team, I just dip in and out when it's a national game for the sake of national pride etc. but I have to say that the images of football related violence would really make me think twice about attending a football match. As usual, it is a small group of hard core people that ruin it for countless others. The times we have seen English louts vandalising historic european streets all in the name of football is hideous. It is therefore no wonder that many police forces take a much heavier line with people. However I think, as demonstrated by the Italians, that it turns out to be just as bad as those that incite violence to begin with, especially when innocent people are caught up in it. I like the idea of more intelligence led operations, infiltrating the gangs, knowing what they are planning and dealing with the crimes that way. I understood that British police had on occasions been specifically drafted in by foreign police forces because of their specialist knowledge, maybe that was on of the European Championships or the World Cup.. Some of the violence is truly horrific, I once recall seeing a BBC undercover documentary in which a reporter infiltrated one of the gangs, it was absolutely appauling and scary that there are people in this world that want nothing more than to incite violence and hatred towards other people and at the same time, tarnish not only a game that millions of people across the world enjoy, but also tarnish the image of Britain.

Yes you are right there is an English element of football hooliganism that has been highlighted in the media for years but other countries, especially Italy, get away with it. It seems even the British media are too scared to criticise the Italian government and football authorities.

Here in Brazil, the football violence is very high. Here have organized fans, they fight and kill orther fans from other clubs. Here is a difficult problem... And the violence in the stadium inside the game, is high too. The players sometimes, fights, say bad words and other things.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I am aware of what it is like in brazil. I have attended two football matches there and the Police search everyone for weapons before they enter the ground.
