yep. i know. it's the world of too much technology and regular mails are mostly just about bills and bills and bills. since i was in highschool, yep, when the internet's not that famous yet, i do exchange letters (the old fashioned ones) with my friends who already are in other places. it's our best way to keep the friendship alive and going. i never regret a thing. i still have those letters with me. lots of them. some i already burned (especially those who are from exes) and some were already torn into pieces by my new puppy. up to now, some of my friends still do this and my boyfriend and i, (we're in a long distance relationship) aside from the ease of just using new technologies to keep us together, we do exchange handwritten mails all the time. the feeling is different, the excitement is better and the efforts you've gone through just to be able to mail that one handwritten mail is really satisfying. how about you? have you lost the love for handwritten, old fashion regular mails?

I still enjoy writing letters through regular mail just as much as emailing people. I have a few friends that I write through postal mail and enjoy reading them and writing back. You get a special feeling out of writing and receiving letters through regular mail. It just seems more real and more meaningful and the letters come from the heart and show the interest that person has in you and your friendship with them. I still have some of the letters that me and my friends have written each other.

Funny you should mention that as I wrote a similar discussion about hand written letters only a few days ago. It seems that we are of like minded spirits and like to keep to some old traditional ways while embracing the new. I believe in keeping an open mind and while adopting the present we must not forget the past in building our futures. We can learn alot from the past and any thing hand made I always have great respect for. I still write love letters to my hubby on hand made paper and I remember one day I was learning to write i love you , wo ai ni in chinese with the brush. I practiced for a whole day then I made the calligraphy and sent it to my hubby. He really apreciated it and it made my little heart happy. There is nothing like the real thing is there?

It is sad. Letter writing has almost gone out of style. I used to write letters all the time and now...not very often. I'd love to write letters but I have no one to write them to that would write back, they'd just rush to their email to do it.

good to know that there are still those who loves to write letters. it's just sad that people won't respond by sending you handwritten mails or even a thank you card. you're right. they just rush into their computers and send you a thank you email.

I"m with you although I use email so much. I love to write and to receive letters and I still write to my kids even when they are here with me :):) When I want it to be special I handwrite it. I also make the stationary very personal because I use blank paper and then decorate it myself or draw on it.

Traditional letter writing has been such a passion of mine for so many years that I even started writing a book about the practice. It seems people are so caught up in the day to day cell phone, regular phone and email communication that I tend to wonder how many of us really write in the traditonal sense anymore. Even blogging has taken over, it seems, in terms of writing in a journal or diary. Here are some sites I love using to keep letter writing alive in my life: http://www.postcardx.net http://www.livejournal.com (there are some penpal and letter writing communities on there) http://www.nervousness.org I'm constantly hunting for new sites and new people to correpsond with. There was a time when I was receiving and sending at least five letters or packages a day. It was such a wonderful feeling! My post office knows me by name now because I'm in there so often and mailing to so many unusual places.

Hello MaryAnne.... Letter writting will always be the most personal way to send messages. There are fewer people writting letters now but those that receive them still enjoy reading them, and perhaps enjoy them more because....fewer are being written. The fact that there are fewer written now makes them more unique and special. Receiving letters by regular mail is something that many younger people have never expirenced. Getting something in the mail that is not a bill is a very pleasant surprise and I enjoy all that I receive, no matter who it is from. Tom

Letters sent through the posts is no longer popular these days because of the ease of communication that is now at the fingertips of everyone. I have noticed though that there are some persons around who miss receiving letters from friends and relatives. However, they have been discouraged to keep on with it since they hardly get responses.

I like handwritten letters. Sadly in this day and age I hardly ever get any. But by that same token I don't really send any either.

I love writing pen pal letters and I send most of them through regular mail such as first class mail and air mail. I love writing letters and I love receiving the letters. It is better than email because they can send me little gifts such as post cards, coins, pictures, and such which they cannot send me through email. It does get lonely when you just use email. However I know some people don't pen pal. Have a nice day. Pablo

I love sending snail mail. It gives my friends something in the mailbox besides bills and junk mail. :) I don't do it as often as I used to but I do still do it.

Oh yes, I love to write letters. I have a boxful of letters that were given to me by my friends. I think regular letters are still the best, you could keep them as memento, touch it and even smell it. You can't do that with emails. Letters are also a lot more personal. I wish my boyfriend would write me love letters. He never does. I'm afraid that I won't have any love letter to show to my grandkids someday.

I love writing and sending things in regular mail. I also love to open the mail box and find something in there other than bills :) I always send out Birthday Cards to all my friends and family for their birthdays. Nothing better than having something to keep and cerish. You only end up deleting personal cards and messages in e-mail.

I do not send any kinds of mail. I prefer telephone, or skype. Of course I have email box, but I use it only for sending or receiving informations. The last time I wrote a letter was about 5yrs ago. ANd I do not receive normal mails from friends, only from companies :) When I moved to my new flat, I threw away all my old letters I received from others...

Well you know where I stand for my friend, I am still fond of using and receiving letters written in hand!;) I don't want to snail mails to be obsolete just because people loves to use the internet, as it also makes me think that maybe stubborn or just want to jump on the 'new' trend. Can't we just have fun and enjoy the best of both, why is it that we have to deny the former while we enjoy the latter? I value so much of those things that helped us alot in the past, and I find it hard to realize that most of the people do not think of it the same way. But I don't blame, I guess they are just so proud of the new technologies that they try to use.

I too haven't lost the excitement of sending a letter to a friend through the post, and receiving one back in return. I find something so satisfying in opening a letter and reading the handwritten lines. I feel the effort of a handwritten letter shows that it comes directly from the heart. I send letters and cards on a regular basis to my best friend in the States. I'm also in contact with a lady in the UK who used to be the one I ran to when I thought my parents wouldn't understand. I sent her a letter 2 weeks ago. She got it and went straight round to tell my mom lol. She said it had made her cry, because it was so unexpected and such a pleasant surprise. Thats what I like to hear. That I've managed to make someone smile.
