I make jewellery and recently have been looking at etsy.com as a place to sell a few pieces and maybe make a little extra money. Has anyone here used the website? I'd love to know your experiences with it, its ease of use, payment system, etc. Also, do you have any tips for a new user?

I currently sell on etsy as www.effulgentcrafts.etsy.com. I have been selling there for over and year an would say I'm doing "ok". Not great, but no awful either. My itens are kind of seasonal, so while I did ok in the winter, summer is fairly snow for me. Etsy is a great vehicle if like me, you are far too lazy to make your own website. They take care of everything for you! You just take pictures upload them and write your your listing. The fees are also very resaonable....MUCH more than ebay. On Etsy it's only 20 cents (US) to list an item. I put my mylot earnings towards my etsy fees in fact :-) While etsy is a community, it's a very large community. Some people will likely find their way to your shop eventually, but it's really up to you to drive traffic there. I got some business cards printed up and I hand those out to friends and family and post them on community boards. I also do craft fairs and festivals in my area and hand the cards out there. This way people can continue to buy from me during the "off-season" for craft fairs. If you are thinking about it....I would go for it! It's a low cost, no-risk way to see if there is a market out there for your work. Plus, it feels great to have someone out there like something you made so much that they want to buy it! Good luck!

Your felted bags are gorgeous! Just the kind of responseI was looking for, I'm glad others have found it worth doing, I'll have to put some of my new pieces on there to test the waters, so to speak, when I've got them finished! Thanks!

Thank you so much :-) When you get your shop up and running let me know. We can exchange "hearts". Feel free to drop a line if you have any etsy questions. I think there is an etsy discussion group here on mylot too that you might want to add to your intersts. Happy selling!!!!

I sell on Etsy, and I've had a lot of luck with it. It allows me to sell my crafts year round, rather than only during the craft fair season. It also lets me get my crafts to a much wider audience, since there are users on Etsy from all over the world. I think it's a very easy site to use, but I have a lot of experience with computers and the internet. I think that some people who are less computer or internet savvy might have some difficulty with it at first. It's very easy for you to get paid for your items, assuming that you accept PayPal, but some new buyers have a little difficulty navigating the payment part of the site. As far as tips go, my main tip is to promote your site elsewhere on the internet, in person, and anywhere else you can think of. Also, if you have a lot of stuff to list, don't list it all at once. If you spread out your listings over several days, you will get more exposure on the front page of the site, which may lead to more sales. Best of luck if you choose to sell on Etsy! If you do, look me up at http://scarywhitegirl.etsy.com.

I have been on there before but I have never sold on there. I was thinking about trying it. I don't know much about it. You might do a search on here under discussions because I saw another discussion on it somewhere in here.

I signed up for Etsy, but I've never sold there, yet. I am planning on giving it a try since eBay changed around their art category. I know other people who sell there regularly, but like what was said previously, they're doing OK, but not great. So, they go to eBay. I'm doing OK on eBay, but the changes that they've made seem to only have made it harder to make a living there.

I just sold my first three items on Etsy! And, these were three items that I tried to sell for months on eBay and it cost me way more to list them there there on Etsy. So, I'm pretty happy.

I signed up for an etsy shop last October and started putting things in it in March. so far I have sold a few things. I highly recommend participating in the forums - especially those in the Promotions and Critiques sections. Most of my sales have come from threads there. Promote, promote, promote anywhere you can. I got myspace because of etsy. Also make sure to read the etsy wiki - good info there. www.bibelots.etsy.com www.flickr.com/photos/bibelots/sets - check out the jewelry and beads sections!
