Have you ever settled for less in a partner than what you wanted?

Have you ever settled for something less in your partner (current or past) than you expected or wanted. What was the compromise about, did they concede something too? Did it work out or did you break up eventually?

Yes, I have settled for someone "less" than my ideal man. Ideally, I want my partner to place more priority to the relationship. However, he's in med school so he really has to put most of his time in his studies and in his career. I also feel that after 4 serious years in our relationship, I should be atleast engaged to him. But marriage is not a priority to him. He wants to finish his medical studies (it would take him 8-10 more years). On the other hand, I think that in 2-3 years I am ready and ripe for marriage. We both love each other but we still haven't arrived to a compromise. We're still together but I don't know how we're going to handle this difficult situation.
