I'm a little disappointed today

I realize that there are a lot of different types of personalities, religious beliefs etc among the users of Mylot but the one thing that I have noticed is the overwhelming hatred of all things homosexual and I for one am tired of it. Before I say anything else, let's get this straight *HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT A CHOICE* I get really upset for the gay people that I know on here who, every day, are subjected to countless posts condemning gay marriage, gay couples adopting, and todays capper allowing gays into Disneyland. Most of these people will spout verses from a book written thousands of years ago which has been re-translated and abridged over and over. Aren't these the self same people that worship an all-loving God. If such a person really existed how do you think he would look upon your spreading of judgement and hatred. And don't try to dress it up as "these people are lost", "or they are looking to be saved"....WRONG...it's HATRED!! I am not going to take time to respond to any responses to this thread as I have said all I need to say here. If I am on your friends list and you wholeheartedly disagree with this post then feel free to remove me as I have done with the people on my friends list who responded to the Disney thread with negativity against gays or verses from the bible.

Wow - just wanted to say what a brilliant post. I haven't seen any of your posts here before I must admit, and this one just happeed to catch my eye as I was about to go to bed, but I couldn't turn off my computer wthout saying how much I agree with you. I am not gay, but I do have many gay friends, and I believe that people are people, whatever their race/colour/creed/sexuality or whatever. Whenn I first came to Mylot, this kind of religious bigotry was the first thing I noticed, and I found it very strange, because I live in the UK, where only about 9% of the population attend Church, and we are such a secular society, that I had never even dreamed such views existed in the Western world until I came here! LOL - how niaive I was. Anyway - I just wanted to say how much I agreed with you, and supported your words. Take care, and good night from London:-))

Thanks rosie (I know I said I wasn't going to respond but I really appreciate your kind words). It's all very strange for me too. I'm originally from Scotland and then had 17 years in Canada before moving to the US (I'm in Georgia where religion is huge)and have never seen anything like this before. I'm not gay either but have friends who are and I know how hurt they get when hearing stuff like that...thanks again for your support.

I generally try to pity the bible thumpers. Because they really are misguided. They have never read the bible. They only read bits and pieces of it and they allow someone else to translate it for them. But sometimes pity doesn't work. I am a Christian. And I'll be damned if I a going to let someone hijack the bible and use it to promote hatred. I will fight back in those cases. They may never see things my way, but Maybe, just maybe...might open their eyes just a slit.

Thank you! I work for a company that owns a bunch of book clubs. One is a christian book club, and I am amazed at all the variations and rewritings of the bible! There's a bible version for every situation (except homosexuals). And funny, these subscribers have given me the most headaches lately. One woman called because she was sent to collections for a bill she did not pay. When I told her there was nothing I could do except accept a payment, she tried to get out of it saying, "But I'm a Christian." Hello! You bought books and didn't pay for them. Why should you be exempt? Another man from the same book club called to first say that he had forgotten to respond to his monthly reply card, and now he has a bunch of books he didn't order. I told him he could send them back to us, and we would remove the charges from his account. Then he tried to tell me he never signed up for the book club. I told him I could close his account after he returned the merchandise that was erroneously sent to him. Then he told me he had a brain tumor, and was there anything special I could do for him? That call rankled me for the rest of the day. And yesterday, a woman tried to get out of paying her bill, and she started swearing at me. I wanted to tell her that her behavior wasn't very christian. Instead, I remained calm, told her I'd have to disconnect the call because she was using profanity while I was trying to help. She continued to swear at me, and I followed through. Goodness this discussion is getting me rankled all over again! LOL!

All I have to add to this post is that I totally agree with you! I don't understand all the homosexual bashing nor do I agree with it. I get upset for the gay people that post here and have to be offended by reading those posts.

I don't have much content to add here, other than to say that I think you hit the nail on the head. Some of the most hateful and mean-spirited people I have encountered are those who call themselves Christians, while some of the kindest people are those who are non-religious.

I really hate it when people judge others. Everyone has a right to live their own lives. Who do people think they are to judge others. I have nothing against gay people. I even have friends that are gay.

I still cannot believe that people can have such bigotted views and feel they have the right to judge someone because they are different to them. I just went on a discussion about gay footballers and how the football world is so homophobic. I mentioned there were rumours that 2 well known footballers were gay, but stated that does it matter. I posted a link about an English footballer years ago who went through hell because he came out. I got a response from someone saying that their opinion of these footballers had gone down and if they had known they would never have supported the team they play for. Why? I could not believe why they had such a view. How are things suppose to change when there are so many people like this around. I really thought we had moved on in society, but then I don't have the misfortune to know people who are homophobic. Its been quite an eyeopener joining mylot and reading some of the discussions. Its a good job that people will fight their corner otherwise the bigots and rascists will take over the site. Thanks for the discussion. I hope those who you are referring to read this!

Spread love not hate - bear carrying hearts
I am with you on this. I'm a Catholic but I don't have a problem with gay people. In fact some of my best friends are gay. I really hate those people who says all these hateful things about homosexuals and then use the Bible as some sort of basis for their actions. They make us Christians look so bad. I once so these kind of self-righteous group in a TV show and it just makes my blood boil. They have no right to say all those things and then say that it's what God wants.
