Would you put the sandwich on an unprotected table, and then eat it?

This morning I was watching Mike & Mike in the morning on ESPN2. Yes, I'm a female, and I enjoy them. : ) So, this morning they brought up an incident that happened last week. Taking a break in Philadelphia, where they were working that week, they went over to a Philly mall. They said the food court was so many times bigger than a normal food court, and the place was not clean. It was later in the day, thousands of people had been there, and it didn't look like one person had ever cleaned any of the particular tables in the food court. So, the bigger Mike (the one who used to play football a decade or so ago) sweeps the crumbs off one table and he and the other Mike (more of an academic than a jock he played tennis LOL) sat down to eat. Big Mike was given part of the other Mike's sandwich. He didn't have a napkin, so he set it down on the table. The table no one had cleaned. The table he said he removed "crummage" from. And then he picked up the sandwich and ate it. So, tell me, would you eat it? No napkin, no history of what and who had been at that table - would you eat it anyway and not find it gross?

I wouldn't eat it. I once worked in a mall, the employees just wiped down the tables with a wet cloth, so basically they were wiping all the germs around into the table. Plus I know lots of people don't wash their hands after using the restroom, then they touch that table yuck! Someone could have sneezed on that table too. But I'm the type of gal that keeps a little bottle of hand sanitizer in my purse and opens doors in public with the sleeves of my jacket ;)

You sound like a smart gal! : ) I have always wondered about those wet towels. They use the same cloth for every table, without wringing it out, or adding more cleaner - how does that help anything?

I think it distributes the germs evenly across the table!

There is no way that I am going to eat that sandwich. And also why on the earth I will put a sandwich on a table, no matter how good and clean the table is. I am little consious about my food. I would not use a table for eating food in a restuarant if that is not cleaned nicely.

In a food court, all the food is fast food, which you buy at a counter. Then there is a whole giant space for each and every person, regardless where they bought the food to sit and eat. So I don't know who cleans the tables, but occasionally SOMEone will come out and do it.

I'm kinda picky when it comes to eating out. At home, I would have no problem eating it off the table, or even the floor, though I know I'm not the best housekeeper. But, in a mall, I would definitely not do it even if I saw someone washing up. I don't know if they sterilize their wash rags right or anything. I would have taken the sandwich and either held it in my hands or put in on my lap. I know where my lap's been.

I don't know why they chose the food court. I guess because it was quick.

No way would I ate that sandwich. What was he thinking? He must have been very hungry. Why didn't he go buy his own sanwich so he could have a plate? He cannot be poor. Right? If he does that, what else does he do?

He bought a crab salad because he is trying to lose weight, and it was in a cup. Little Mike felt sorry for him so he offered a piece of his sandwich. And he wasn't a huge NFL star. So he is well off, but not like Tom Brady rich. Neither Mike could find a napkin or a plate anywhere in that food court - it was nearing the end of the afternoon.

Part of the problem is that it was Philly. There were no more clean trays, and not a napkin in sight.

This reminds me of my 14 year old daughters objection to the cleanliness, or lack of, in a well known takeaway. After swimming training, she always has a subway roll. Depending on where the training is, requires a different Subway shop. At one of them, she noticed that the freshly baked biscuit counter did not have any lid on it. She saw a fly crawling over the biscuits. EWvery since then, she has not purchased a biscuit from that particular Subway.

Oh, man! I'd write them a letter. My dad was in this mexican restaurant once and the owner stood on one of the tables to change a light bulb. So, my dad thought, OK, he'll wipe off the table. He DIDN'T! He seated two people at that exact table. My dad has never been back.

Eeeewwwww! I couldn't do that. I think it would make me physically ill. There is no telling what had been on those tables, not to mention the germs that had built up all day long. The guy was either incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid! LOLOL

No, I definitely would not. I am turning into a germaphobic these days with all the food poisoning and recalls going on. You can't trust anything anymore. There are germs that we don't see and probably never heard of and I dont' want to get sick from anything I can avoid if at all possible. So,no, this would be extremely GROSS :)

I definitely wouldn't eat it. I'm not a clean freak, but there are a few things that I simply will never do and that ranks pretty high in my list. I won't even do that in my own home, actually.

I think it's gross. You don't know if the sandwich had been contaminated with bacteria or what not. You will never know. You might just end up feeling sick from heaven knows what!! No napkin and all....eeks!! You'll never find me doing that unless one day I am really desperate and hungry and have no money to buy food.... that's another story... Not to be a snob but nowadays.... the possibilities are great.. People can get sick easily!!

True. A person might not even get sick right away. It could take months for the bacteria to manifest itself in physical symptoms.

Ick Ick Ick!! No way would I eat it. I have a thing about germs...I don't like them! LOL. I would definetly find it gross. I won't even french fries off the tray at McDonalds if a napkin isn't laid down first. I just know that those trays aren't cleaned as well as they should be. I could imagine what kind of germs are lurking on the tables in the food court.

As the years have gone on, I've seen more and more exposes on restaurants, and it's getting to where I don't want to go to any of them anymore.

I definitely would not eat it! I always make sure my food is not directly on the table, even if it has been cleaned just cause it still grosses me out thinking of all the other people who have been sitting there, and I know not all the germs and stuff could be completely gone. I'm a little bit paranoid though, lol. I even make sure my silverware is also on a napkin or on the plate so it doesn't touch the table either. lol

its a sandwich yo - its a sandwich
i wouldnt eat it. that is nasty to put a sandwich down on a dirty table and then eat it later. it is almost like putting it on the floor and then eating it later. i would throw it away or never put it down on the table in the first place.
