I am very interested in finding out how our ancestors dealt with illnesses when there were no treatments around I have tried to look on google without success. I would also like to know what happens if you leave things like scabies or other infestations because if there were no medications then out ancestors must have had to leave things like this. Do they just go without treatment? What happens? There must have been things like scabies because it is very common and easy to catch.

sure enough they must have let the disease take its natural course & let it get cured with time.
even if we don't take treatment, our body has its own immune system which deals with any infection & tries to contain the infection.
there were many orthodox beliefs in the premedication era about various diseases like God's wrath, Efects of one's sins, & so on & people used to go to "black magicians", priests, etc. to saught cure for their condition. quit a few conditions would even respond, as most of clinical conditions are psychic, which is even practised today by docs as well which is known as placebo effect or the so called faith healing.
as far as scabies is concerned, if tretment is not taken, then it is bound to spread to other members of the family or to other contacts of the patient. so immediate treatment as per doctor's advice is recommended.

Thanks for your response I wasn't aware of the bodies natural healing response however I do not believe in anything psychic. I know when Jesus was on the earth He healed a great many people including lepers. God has the power to heal ailments. Perhaps people needed more faith in those days. I have known a local man being healed of parkinsons and he was completely healed by God.

mickie30, psychic is the minds way of telling the body to know, by sensing or feeling, that something is not right. It is the deeper part of natural healing our bodies are capable of doing. It is better understand if you find out such things as meditation and what levels of consciousness can provide these different avenues of relief.
They had the benefits and misfortunes of using herbs and plants and roots indigenious to their geographical location. They had illnesses & cures and probably experimented with much of the agriculture to see which relieved the problems more effectively. Without the role (or aspect) a faith healer provides, a strong belief in the thought might be lessened and healing would be halted if not made completely impossible by external forces now a threat instead of a blessing.

I have often wondered this as well. I know that there have been use of medicinal plants for thousands of years. They may or may not have been as effective as modern medicines. I'm sure with something like scabies, there would be a quarantine and a medicinal herb used to kill the bugs. There were also herbs and plants that were used that were very similar to those used in medicines today.
The main problem with early medicine is that there was an extreme lack of knowledge. A lot of time people thought you get sick from having bad blood and need to be "leeched". Or, they thought it was a curse or some other spiritual problem. And, when they did operations, they never sterilized or even cleaned the instruments properly.

Aha, I have done a personal research about his several years ago. One of the reason is my father got diabetes, for doctors there is no cure for diabetes. So, I read many things about our ancestors medicine.
Firstly, I found that our ancestors eat raw food. I mean food that has no harsh chemicals or additives. So, their bodies are clean, strong/healthy, and last longer.
Secondly, our ancestors's view about how to maintain a healthy body or how to treat disease is different compared to doctor's view. Our ancestor (or maybe my ancestor) believed that to treat disease firstly we have to clean our body, then nourish it, and then we can enjoy great healt. I share their view, which I learn from many herbs man, in www.moneyfromhealth.blogspot.com .
And about the psychic, maybe psychology is the right word. Some people are not sick but they think they are sick and need medicine. So, what doctor does is he gives placebo or sugar that look like a medicine, the people take it and feel good. We call it placebo effect, not a medicine but has good effect for people who think that the are sick!
