I was reading an article on TVGuide.com where Simon called the current idol cast not the best they've ever had. He was speaking to Entertainment Weekly, but a blurb of it is here:http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Todays-News/Simon-Says-Idol/800012825

I agree with him totally. I LOVE Melinda, Blake, and LaKeisha so much and I think they are great, but all the other contestants pale in comparison to the other seasons. The other seasons, I was torn between so many of them thinking they all had so much talent...but, this year there are only a couple that shine and the rest are just mid-way.

I agree, those three are the best and really should be in the competition. The rest can sing better than I can, but aren't as good as the contestants from previous years.

he has a point, i mean, not that this batch doesnt have good singers but if you compare to the former batch, they are , should i say, at the botton... but who knows,... maybe someone from this batch could be more popular than those of the likes of fantasia, carrie etc.... lets just wait and see whats gonna happen to them..

I agree that this is not the best group of singers that they have ever had. I think the best group would have been from a couple years ago when Carrie Underwood won. They had a lot of very good singers there that could have won this year or last year. Last years group was okay but still not the best. The group that they have now is pretty good but not great. I see the three ladies getting record deals for sure and probably Blake as well.

Yeah, the year Carrie won was the first year I really paid attention to American Idol. The people who are there now are definitely talented and will get record deals, but they just don't seem as good as previous year's contestants.

I have to admit-- There isn't any Chris Daughtry this year- I think he spoiled me to the show- I do love Blake! and Chris Richardson-- but I'm not jumping up and down after each show- like I was after watching Daughtry last season. I think Simon should be nicer though- After all he had a hand in picking the final contestants- He shouldn't have sent those guys to Hollywood- Especially Sanjaya!

I think last night's country songs proved that some of the other ones that I thought weren't that great just were out of the genre. But, Sanjaya was the worst of all of them last night. So, I wonder if this would be the last night for him.

Hi! I'm not a follower of American Idol but there's so much of the "Sanjaya" craze going on around here at myLot so I tried to see what it was all about. Anyway, the show is right before "House MD" which I always watch, so I make it a point to see the Idol show as well. Honestly, I saw Carrie Underwood and the guy who won the last time perform. They're really good! I guess I have to agree that the new contestants can't pit to the talent of the previous two. The thing is, even without very vocally-endowed contestants, Idol has become more controversial because of Sanjaya, and has gathered more viewers, I think. Thus, money-wise, it has gotten better (for the show, that is). Just my opinion. Happy myLotting!

I think the controversy is probably making them a little money because more people are going to watch because of Sanjaya. I kinda feel sorry for him because he is creating so much buzz that is not good. It would be hard for me to handle if I were him, especially at 17. He must have a really great personality to be able to deal with it.
