My uncle has been hired by a new high-tech company after working in a totally different profession, they promised him that they will teach him everything he needs to know, my question: Is there any chance that he'll actually learn? I mean, the older you get the less chance you'll have the patience and the abillity to learn new things, and if you learn a totally new profession your chances aren't that high, or am I mistaken?

You are definitely mistaken. Learning may slow as we age, but the capacity to learn remains. The motivation to learn new things keeps people from losing their mental abilities. Do not discount what your uncle may actually learn and do.

Your uncle is so lucky to be offered this wonderful chance to learn something new. Just because someone is older doesn't mean they cannot learn new skills. Older people have more patience and determination, they are more resiliant and perfectly able to learn a new profession.
