At my ten year high school reunion I went to say somethings I needed to get off of my chest. I grew up in a small community and our family was not liked very well. Our eight grade graduating class was only 14. I went to school with the same people from second grade on.
I saw a ex neighbor who asked me a lot of questions requading my sisters. I asked him "Why are you acting like you care, you did not like us growing up and why are you asking me now about my sisters ?". He said "Jannie I am sorry for all the bad stuff that I did to you and your sisters, I use to pick on you guys and you never stooped to my level you where always mature and handled it well. I am really sorry for what I have done to you and your sisters."
I think if you go you will find out not everyone is in a stable job or doing what they thought they would be doing by now.
I had kids first then went to college. I have not graduated from college but I was making a great wage. So who knows someone in your class may be doing worse than you.
No one should be ashamed of themselves. What we need to do when we make a mistake is use it as a learning expirence and go on. I got pregnant with our daughter the night of my high school graduation. We go married and are still married. I use to feel guilty that I forced my husband to marry me because of our daughter. If that was true then we would not be married now for almost 30 years.
If you go you might do some networking and find someone there who can help you get a steady job. I know when I go to big functions I learn a lot by talking to people. It has helped my career.
At one function I met a women who hooked me up to do some public speaking. I did several seminars on sleep disorders. I was asked back to a womens confrence twice.
All I am trying to say is try to not be ashamed of your self, use your mistakes to learn what not to next time and go on. If you do not go that is ok also. I just know for me my 29th was great. By then who cares who is fat and who is bald and who is divorced. It was good to see all the people I went though school with.
Good luck with your decision.

I had the same thing happen at my 10 year reunion. I didn't go there to get things off my chest, but everyone kept apologizing to me for how they treated me. Funny thing was, the people at the school I ended up graduating from are the ones who treated me the best.

Yeah, who cares what people think of you at the reunion? I guess this is supposed to be funny or something, but I'm not sure. Don't prepare at all and go as yourself, and forget who was popular and who was not, and just be comfortable chatting with some people you used to see everyday and not worry about judging anyone or being judged.

My ten year high school reunion should be this year but I don't know if anyone is setting it up or not. I want to go...but I feel bad too. I wanted to be more successful, have a book published etc. Ah well... I won't go to my reunion if they have one unless I have someone to go with me. It was a big school and I only knew a few people. But I am very curious to see how everyone is and what's going on in their life.

I have never attended one and will never attend one. I hated school and I really only had a few close friends and I am still in touch woth them. I have no need to go back and see all of the people I went to school with!
And you should not feel ashamed! Go if you want to! There are probably people there that don't even have jobs! If you are working that is something top be proudof in and of itself! So go if you want to!

i haven't been to big reunions before. but in small reunions, i joined them. just recently, i had dinner three times with my elementary classmates. 3 or 4 of them. and i admit, i love the feeling of reuniting with them. reminiscing the past and talking about future plans. it's really fun. you'll get to know more about your classmates back then and you build your friendship up to the next level.
as for you, you don't have to feel ashamed or embarrassed as to who you are today. be proud of yourself. be happy and just have a great smile on your face. you'll surely enjoy your day with old friends.

Hi Cherriemae,
I have never been to any of my reunions. Not high school, college or university. I moved 2300 miles away from where I went to school, and have never seen reunions as important enough reasons to take time off, fly back east, book a rental car and hotel, etc... It's just not that much of a priority.
Sometimes I wonder if pragmatism isn't interfering with a really fun time. Then again, probably not. I still communicate with some of my friends from H.S., and they've indicated that the reunions they've attended were not much to write home about.
It might have something to do with the fact that my graduating class from h.s. only had 48 students!

I was never interested in school reunions. The school was too big, I wouldn't know the people who were there anyway and I never had much in common with these people. I don't have one single friend from my masters program, and only 1 friend left from my ba.

I really don’t attend school reunions. I‘m really not good with names and I tend to forget names specially if I haven’t seen or talked to them in a long time. So I really don’t like attending school reunions because if I attend, then I have to spend time and chat to people whom I can’t even remember their names.

It's too bad you're thinking that way cherriemae because school reunions are supposed to be a fun time and I very much doubt all these people are doctors, nurses, lawyers and teachers. I'm sure you have done things or have been places you could discuss. I bet you'd be surprised, maybe some of the guys you thought were hot are now bald have bad teeth or whatever and so what. Remember school reunions are to be a fun thing. I hope you think about it.

I am 62 and have never attended a school reunion nor do I intend to. My high school years were not my favorite years. There realy arn't that many of the kids that I went ot school with that I would wish to see again. I don't see any sence in going to see the compatition of how great everyone is doing. I don't cre about who looks old and who doesn't

Well, I hope you had fun at the reunion yesterday. We haven't had any reunions yet, but when we do, I will attend because I want to see what most people look like now.

I have never been to a school reunion. Let alone even knew about them. I guess it's hard to find the females as well as it is the males. That and the fact my last name changed twice so no one was able to find me. But luckily i have signed up with classmates.com and am now on the 20 year renunion list! Will I go??? Not sure about that. But i have 5 more years to get my butt looking awesome!
