why is it so difficult for a guy to say 'sorry'?

what exactly stops a person from apologising? is it the ego? the whole idea of admitting that one is wrong and then to lose face? or is it something else?

usersignup but then, doesn't it sort of kill the purpose? the whole idea is to feel good about yourself, but something inside keeps eating you, telling you that you should apologise and you haven't?
