I've stumbled upon something rather strange - there is no technology what so ever in the wizard's world! How could that be? I mean surely there are things technology could make easier for wizards (plus much more fun), think of the aspect of technology and wizardry put together, the possibilities are endless.

Hermione explained it in the fourth book I believe, when Harry asked whether Rita Skeeter could be 'bugging' the places they were at. She said that enough magick disrupts electrical things so they can't work. Like at hogwarts, diagon alley..or even in the common wizard family's home..with all the people in one place I guess there'd be alot of magic flying about. Besides I'm sure they have plenty of magical devices which work in the place of technology and probably alot better than it heh. After all..remember the clock at the Weasley's? I don't reckon it runs off electric or batteries..you heard Ron's dad trying to pronounce 'electric' in the fourth book too, which if we take it logically would mean Mr Weasley's never lived with it before.

I guess you're right, if you ask me I think it's just an excuse to make Harry's environment more majestic and middle-aged..

It never had that feel to me. It was always a world unto itself in my mind..with just a touch of our modern world. Just the right mixture. I only got the 'middle aged, majestic' feeling when they read history text books or the adults spoke of how things used to be.. Even if it is an excuse, I don't think its such a bad thing.

In book four, during the Yule Ball, they had a band, and from what I can remember, they had guitars, microphones and amps and things. But I guess they could have used the sonoros (sp?) spell to magnify the sounds. Its been awhile since I've read it, so I could be mistaken. But when you think about it, they really don't need electricity. Spells and things can accomplish pretty much anything they need. Although I know I could never live without email, lol.

but why would you need technology when you have magic? They can cook by magic, fly by magic, the weasleys have a magic clock. Sure they had a car that was enhanced by magic, but it didn't exactly turn out the way it was meant to, and the car took off by itself. As the person above said, technology and magic don't seem to mix very well.

They dont really need technollogy they can do everything with their wands. Although they much have some things, like they a cooker, i can't imagine they cook everything on cauldrons and they have radio's.
