Can Your Dog Talk?

When I was a kid I had a part poodle, part terrier dog who learned how to talk. First I taught him to say "Mama" and he actually knew the word referred to 'our' mom. He would call her name and run over to her if he got in trouble with me or my sister. Then he learned to say "Hamburger" all on his own. When we started going through a drive through he would start bouncing around the car whining while saying "Hamburger". The only other dog I've heard of that learned how to 'speak' was a poodle so now I'm wondering if this is a poodle thing. Has anybody else had a dog that learned to talk and if so, what breed was he?

No my dog doesnt talk well she doesnt say " words" but we can get her to howl and bark etc like she is singing but that is the best we can do... :)

I actually had a dog for twenty years, I don't know the breed, she was a mutt or mixed breed. She was kind of short & fat, beagle like, not small toy type dog. She used to say "I love you" which sounded more like (why wuv wu) and rootbeer (wootweer) I thought it was pretty neat as a kid. She also would not eat peas, even if we "hid them" in food, she would always leave them at the bottom of the bowl. French fres had to have ketchup, pizza crust had to have sauce. She would get her own Christmas stocking and was just as excited as we were. She also really enjoyed Easter, she would help us find our baskets so she could have some jelly beans. I have had many dogs, and the one I have now is very special and smart, but none can compare with my precious Ebony.

Wow, she does sound like a really special dog. It's amazing that she could say an entire phrase like that.

Can our dog talk? No, but she sure thinks she can! She's so cute.. our cat 'talks' too.. I guess it's because we talk to them.. :))

It is really cute and there is just something about a talking pet that seems to make them closer to you. I always wish we had a video camera then...I bet we could have won some nice awards on the home video shows if we could have captured it on film.
