Do you prefer camping using a tent or an RV?

My husband and I camp in a park near our home every summer. We both like to use a tent, but we have friends that go with us that prefer to use their RV. They also do not like to cook on the campfire, they say there are too many items that you cannot make on a campfire. I do all my cooking on the campfire, breakfast, lunch and supper. Last year I tried making bread on the campfire using an old coleman cake maker that my dad had. Anyway, I was just wondering which type of camping do most people prefer? tdbrower1969

I am sorry that you do not get to go camping often, we do every summer and the whole family enjoys it.

I like the idea of an RV because of the bathroom aspect. I wouldn't like to have to try to drive the RV, though, that would be really daunting. Tents are great for the kids, but I think I have gotten just a little too old to be sleeping on the ground!

I can respect that, it is just that this is the only camping I have ever done, except once when my mother in law as n oxygen. But, also my son is at the age that he really enjoys camping in a tent.

I think both have their advantages and disavantages. However I'd prefer a tent. I think it feels more like camping and I think that it really is just more comfortable. It's easier to get air to circulate in a tent I think because it doesn't have very many places it needs to go, so I think it's just more comfortable.

Yes, they do have both good and bad, but I still enjoy tent camping much more.

I prefer camping in an RV. It's like a mini home on wheels. Sleeping outside in a tent is too creepy to me. I wouldn't be able to sleep cause I'll keep thinking there is something crawling on me LOL. I don't mind cooking on the campfire though.

I know how you feel, I have some friends that won't go with us for that same reason! But, sometimes they do rent an RV and end up staying with us for a couple of days.

We do the same every summer, camp at a camp ground not too far away. We load up the tent, the coleman stove, and stuff to cook on the campfire. Oh yeah, and the dog! lol We love getting away like that for the weekend, no stress, no schedule, no tv, no phones (we take cell phone for emeregency, but they stay turned off except when checkin messages. We usually throw in a good book to read. I've camped both ways and so has he, but we like our tent camping.

We usually camp for at least a week when we go. I can't take my little daschunds with us, because they cry whenever I leave their sight. This is embarrassing for my husband when I go take a shower, so they stay at home and guard the house.

Roughing it all the way! We do tents, campfires, no electrical items, & no phones! We love camping in the summer time! Can't wait til we go...looking at a possible week long camping trip over 4th of July.

We have never camped in an RV in our lives. We alway camp in tents. We dont go to camp ground either. We drive along way from anywhere and set up camp along the river. We have this wonderful place that we always go and it is an hour drive down a dirt road and nobody lives for miles away. We love it. We are true country people.

That sounds really great. We always camp at a park near our home, it is easier for me to come home and feed all the animals I have, rather than having to find someone I trust well enough to do it every day.

I don't have a motorhome and prefer our tent and air beds. We can load up the car and go where we like, pitch up where we want to, and I also have a couple of brilliant little cookers that fit nicely into a small space in the car. Last summer we did a wild camp, I parked the car in a secure parking area and we walked for two hours with all our gear on our backs. We set up the tent near a lake and spent a wonderful night in peace.

I wish there were more places near my home to do that sort of thing!

To be more comfortable and to have better conditions of cooking, sleeping and so on it's better an RV. It's not as warm as a tent and people can live there like in a normal house. For camping I prefer a tent, it's more exciting and funny. It's not as easy to cook because you have to make a campfire or take something to cook but people get used to it and with friends it's great!

I agree, we like to go with a group of friends to camp. If they all can't make the camping trip, they at least come out for dinner and even help prepare it.

My husband and I tent camped for 2 years and loved it, but with having smaller children it seemed that we were spending more time walking back and fourth to the bathroom instead of enjoying our surroundings. 2 Years ago we bought our first ccamper, it was kinda small, but was a great starter camper. Needless to say, we weren't walking to the bathroom every 20 minutes with the kids anymore :) Last year, we invested in a bigger camper becuase we were all getting a bit cramped with the kids getting bigger. We really loved tent camping, but it is much more convienient for us to have a camper. We are getting ready to park it on a permanent lot in a wonderful campground and that's where it's gonna stay until we upgrade again.

I understand that, and if I had more than one child, I would probably have went with a camper, too.

I like camping with a tent as opposed to the rv because when I'm in an rv, then it just doesn't feel like camping anymore. The rv provides everything that you can find inside your house. When I go camping I want to get the whole experience of camping. The only bad thing about camping with a tent is that it might get extremely hot even at night. I remember one time when I was camping in a tent with friends, man I was sweating like a dog while trying to get to sleep in my tent. But other then that, I just prefer camping with a tent.

I agree with you, we use our tent all the time. The only time we stayed in an RV was with my in-laws, but my mother in law was on oxygen and we had to have those conditions for her health. It just wasn't the same. I would rather sit around the campfire and be able to look up and see the stars, and watch the little critters come out at night. There are a lot of racoons where we camp, and it is hilarious to watch them come wander about the campsite at night in search of goodies! tdbrower1969

I'm just not a "roughing it" kind of gal. An RV or camper would be much more inviting to me. Camping in a tent was fun when I was younger, but I like having all the comforts of home now. I do like cooking over the campfire. I think food just tastes better cooked over a flame, plus, that's part of the fun.

I just enjoy the roughing it, my dad and I used to go all the time when I was little and it is one of the things that my husband and I both enjoy.

I love camping in a tent but RVs are also nice. Tent camping is just so fun and relaxing. It's a different feeling but a good one.

I know, I really like to be in a tent, you can see the stars and watch the sun come up and everything. I just feel like I am at home in an RV, not on vacation at all.
