Living in the past =)

Well this will probably seem strange, I'm actually not bothered and I do think some will see my point. (so that's worth it) Some say living in the past drives you crazy, I disagree with this because at times I do. Not the unhealthy sort but if you can hold on to the memories then you won't ever have nothing, even this means you nobody around. I fondly recall any memory as most are which make me who I am and these events do mould how life's. So thing's that I've done in the past - "Lived in the past" is true, but I don't mean I lived before 2007 (laugh out loud) I mean at times, I will spend moments, minutes or even hours living in the past. Have you ever done this? ~Joey P.s I will probably wish this could be deleted, although right now I honestly do wish we could store our memories as easily as we can store our data. =) (could be where I get my obsession with recording events from) hehe

Joey, my friend as you know I am forever living in the past and it drives me insane, all the bitter regrets and stupid decisions I've made, I'm always dwelling on the past and wishing I could turn back the clock, the reason why I'm in the mess I am in now and my depression is due to regrets and wrong choices I made in the past. I'm always dwelling over 1998 in particular when I was really happy, now for me I just get by and 'exist' I don't particularly enjoy life.

Wolfie, i don't know you, or your situation, but I hate to hear anyone sounding like this. To simply exist is not living life. I know I might sound cliche, but please try and do something for me. Just for a minute, pretend that there are no wrong choices in life. imagine that whatever those choices you made in your past, were supposed to be made that way. Think of anything positive that has happened in your life since then. any lessons you have learned from your past. there is a reason in life for everything, and sometimes it is hard to see right away, but it is always there. Please, start living again, make fresh starts, make new friends, find that one thing that can bring you happiness each day. If you'd ever like to talk, I'd be more than willing to listen.

there is nothing wrong with good memories from the past, we also must learn from the past to make our present and future better. Living in the past would be if you went over board, doing it in excess

yep. there is nothing wrong about it. sometimes, we look back and say, "Thank God!". our pasts might be ugly or beautiful or a mixed of everything. all we need to do is keep the past a part of our lives to learn from it.

i had a rough past but my parents, my brothers and i managed to get pass the struggles together. and being together is something i wanna remember for the rest of my life. i had been to relationships which hurt me a lot. but still, i remember the past. i had friends who betrayed me. but still, i did not erase them from my memory bank. i had so many failures in life. but i always look back to my past. i would not have gone too far without my past. i don't just remember the positive things which happened to me. mostly, i remember the pains and struggles i went through... not to dwell on them and pity myself... but to be thankful for the person who i am now. my past turned me into a better person. my past is a part of who i am until the day i die. i learned from every step i took. and so, those steps will leave footprints in my life. and i believe in living in the past since my past is ME! happy myLotting! p.s. i hope i got my point clarified. i am a bit sleepy i guess. hehe

I think we all have very cherished memories throughout our lives...we often recall on these memories more and more as we age. I'm a true believer in living in the present..not the past, not the future.

I think the difference is remembering the past and recalling memories that are good or even not so good verses living in the past. That is a life filled with regrets and wishing that things could have been different. You can let go of the past so that it has little hold on you and still take time to recall past events that bring back pleasant feelings. Right now, you are working on events and memories that will be recalled in the future...I hope they will be good ones.

I am of the opinion that no matter what the memory is, it is part of you and part of your experience. If you can remember what you did that was totally a mistake and not do it again, then that "bad" memory has served its purpose. Every thing you do and every thing you experience makes you the person you eventually become. I don't "live in the past" but I do think about things I have done, or not done, the people I knew and loved, and places I have been. In that respect, memories can take us back and let us relive things over and over, if we wish to.

Well, I have always been told that I am stuck in the 80's. This doesnt have anything to do with my memories however. There is a lot that I just do not want any memories of at all. I do agree that some memories are good to take with you and reflect upon. I think it is part of lifes learning. One can learn a lot about themselfs by looking at their past and where they have gone. I dont see a problem with reflecting on you past as long as you are not dwelling on it. I am sure you've probably heard, the past is done and it's time to move on.

I do like to recall memories. but i don't want to recall all of them! It's why I take pictures and store them on my computer. Pictures help me remember fun times and people I love and miss. But I have plenty of memories from the past that can stay there!!

Ahhh, joey my friend. I wish I can spare even for a few minutes to think about my past. I just don't have that luxury anymore. Everything are going so fast and I am forever trying to catch up. I certainly can't afford to go back as I have two little ones to think about right now. I can only think about the future.

sometimes, yes i do get "stuck" in the past... remembering "the old times, the good times"... i get nostalgic, but then i wake up and i realize that i was and that i am lucky, for all the things that i have lived and all the things i continue to live and experiencing... oh "saudades"!

I think it depends on the memory. I have many bad memories I wish i could forget. The happy ones i hope I remember forever. The past is what makes us who we are today so why would we want to forget about it. I am going to start scrapbooking all my my pictures and momento, i think it's a good way to preserve them for long lomg time and then when i want to look back I will have books to look through.I look at photo's all the time, they make me smile.

ok, i commented to Wolfie, but forgot to add my own view on the main topic here. I spend tons of time in my past, it is what gets me through today. The fond memories can put a smile on my face when I'm down. Thinking about college days, and crazy dating, keeps me sane when I get into a longterm relationship that sometimes seems to be getting a little boring. Remembering my grandfather, who passes away a few years ago, keeps him alive to me, and has even allowed me to have my son get to know a man he has never met. At times these memories can be bittersweet, as I miss the times it happened. But as long as I continue to make new memories for myself, I'll always be happy.

It is cool to relieve the memories of the past especially if they bring smile to one's day..but one should not live his life dwelling on the past and on the what-might-have -beens, this is another thing and reallly poisoning..If I were to relieve a past memory, if it's not that happy, then I should just use it to teach me things in life for the present and the future..

Hi Joey, I believe there's nothing wrong with recalling the past, as long as we can 'still' look to the future. Being a bit older, memories start to become all the more precious. I find it comforting to think of past events, on special anniversaries, loved one's birthdates etc., and look back on where I've come from.

I think we have to live in the past with some things, memories... after all we learn to do what we do in the future by hanging on to lessons... of the past, if not we'd keep doing the same mistakes. The past makes the present and both combined make the future. I find we always live with some of the past but we also shouldn't obsess or stay stuck in the passed, but we mustn't go on as if there was no past at all.

there is nothing wrong with it as long as it doesnt interfere with your current life in a bad way. I rather forget my past alot of hard things in it alot of pain but saying thta its important to use the past to learn so you arent hurt in the same way again or make the same mistakes
