Let's say you get a lot of gifts like a birthday or Christmas... how long is too long to get your thank yous out? What is the proper amount of time you should send out all of the thank you cards? My son's first birthday party was about 3 weeks ago and I still have some thank yous to finish writing. I know they should have gone out sooner. Is that rude that it is taking so long to get them out?

I think you should send them immediately, preferably the next day after the event. It is not really rude if you can't send them thank you cards immediately as long as you didn't forget to thank them, explaining why it took you that long and ask for apology.

thanks for the advice. With a baby it is very hard to send out all the thank yous the next day.

For weddings most websites say "within two months of the wedding".... but honestly, people talk and if they don't have them in under a month they get antsy. I would just send them out now so they are done before the 1 month time is up. People may say they know you are busy, but people want their thank yous. Then again, we never even send thank you's for stuff like that. My entire life, we only sent out actually thank you cards for my graduation parties and my wedding shower and I will for my wedding. Otherwise, we just thank the person as they are there giving us the gifts :)
