Headache Relief!!

Those of you who are migraine sufferers may be aware that certain foods can trigger or aggravate your headache. Among foods sometimes associated with migraines are MSG, chocolate, aged cheese, citrus fruit, and sodium nitrates (found in processed meats). If any of these is a trigger for you, don't eat it, especially if you feel a headache coming on. To help determine what, if any, foods cause your migraines, keep a food diary for a few weeks. Write down what you eat, and when. Then, right down the times and days you have a headache. If it seems to be consistently associated with certain foods, try avoiding those foods and see if it makes a difference. 2. If you are a chronic migraine sufferer, with only mild headaches occurring less often than three times a month, your doctor may be able to help. Ask about drugs such as ergotamine or an isometheptene-containing combination. Your doctor may be able to prescribe some relief for you. 3. Tense? We all get that way sometimes, and that tension is frequently accompanied by a tension headache. To stop it, breathe deeply and think calmly. While seated, try inhaling deeply and tip your head gently back, looking at the ceiling. Exhale, and bring your head forward until your chin rests on your chest. Repeat twice, and the ache in your head should be diminished.

Great advice honey - thank you for sharing! I suffered chronic migraines for years, they started at about 13 and my son also suffers these - he was diagnosed as having csv (Cyclic vomitting syndrome) at about 8 -9 years old, the doctors and hospital were stumped and sent him to a child psychologist who examined him and took a health history from me as well! It seems this syndrome can be inherited by children of parents who have migraine - his life changed literally overnight! He now takes a medication called Migraleve as soon as he feels a headache coming on - if he takes it within 10 - 20 minutes the migraine subsides but if there is a delay in taking it he is wiped out for a few days - just like I used to be! I used to take the medication too but luckily I haven't suffered from a migraine in a few years - ever since I had a hormonal coil called mirena fitted! Thank you for looking after us all so weall and trying to keep us healthy! xx

It can be honey - but not always! Thankfully he was eventually diagnosed and given effective treatment cos it was really worrying before we knew what was wrong!

Interestingly enough, when I do get a migraine, I find that a small piece of dark chocolate, about half a can of cola and a nap in a freezing cold, dark room will relieve my headaches. If I MUST get through the day, I find that a small cup of coffee and 5 Tylenol (500mg) tablets will do the trick just about every single time.

When I was a young girl and when I was first married I used to have really terrible migraines , I am not sure if it were chocolate or oranges or just pure tension that caused them , they affected my sight too and I imagined things were falling from the sky . it was really terrible but touch wood I haven't had one for a long time , hopefully I just grew out of them xx

Yesterday, I had a mild headache in the afternoon. I thought it was due to the allergins in the air. By 7:00 last night I had a full blown migraine. I tried everything to get it to go away. I went to bed and pulled the covers over my head. I slept for nearly 2 hours, woke, took pain meds and went back to bed. I woke at 12:30 a.m. feeling fuzzy, but no pain. This morning I was completely rested and felt much better. I don't usually get them often, but when I do, I am down for the count.

I suffer from migraines because of hormon problems, but I´ve copied your post for my husband. He often has severe migraines. Doctors told him this was used to stress, but that can´t be the reason, because he often gets them after meals and at times when he´s not stressed at all. He loves all kinds of cheese and eats a lot of oranges. This could be the reason or at least one of them. Thanks a lot for this helpful information. Very good post +

Thankfully I've never had a migraine but I'm vegan so I don't eat any meats or cheeses. I also avoid MSG because I've had allergic reactions 2 or 3 times to it. My sister used to have horrible migraines but now eats a vegan diet and no junk food and now only gets about one migraine a year.

Both myself and my partner suffer migraines, though only occasionally. My partner has suffered all his life, and quite regularly as a child. Neither of us take pills for them because we prefer to sleep them off. That works better for us than filling out bodies with chemicals. As for triggers, there aren't any as such that we know of. I have heard however that certain foods can set it off, and cheese used to give me headaches when I was younger, although not migraines. Funny how times change lol, now I can eat cheese with no problems at all.
