I call them by dad or mom, not by their names. Only sometimes, but those are a special kind of cases.

They react normally. They don't think it's a lack of respect calling them by their names. They have nothing against it, it doesn't matter.

Of course I do call them by mom and dad. We Filipinos have many ways to respect a older people to us not only to our father and mother but to all oldies even it is not our relative just to show respect to them we called them aunt or uncle.

thats good for you, so u respect your tradition and culture as well, and i most asians do follow this custom of calling their parents dad and mom instead by their names.

For me it has always been mom & Dad. The same with my grand parents They were always Grandma and granddad. Some people call their grandmothers Granny I have always felt that that was disrespectful and now that I am a grandparent I don't want to be called granny. I will correct any one that calls me that. The same way with my kids. When they were little they would call me by my given name and I would correct them Our being called Mom & Dad shows that we are different from every one else in our relationship with our kids

I have had to use both for my parents, and it is strange to actually say their names instead of "Mom" and "Dad". My mom does not answer to "Mom" when out in public (this has gone on for years, ever since I was a teenager), so I have to call her by her first name to get a response. My dad works for the same company I do, so when referring to him with co-workers, I have to call him by his first name because a lot of my co-workers do not know he is my father. When I spend time with him I call him "Dad". There is no lack of respect toward my parents when I call them by their names, and they do not feel disrespected based on the circumstances in which their names are used.

I called them in respectful way. I'm not comfortable calling them in their name.
