Well, I was chatting online with someone from the site and we were talking about all of the changes over the years and some of the site politics. I said that I was surprised that in all the years I'd been there I was never given any other "hats" than the ones I had already. This person told me that I had been "tagged" because I had been in groups where people posted their links and I would never get anything other than what I already had because of it and that when my name had come up to some people, it had been crossed off because of this. I was stunned. The groups were around a lot when I first started because of the whole pay-per-hit thing and I just kept doing it because no one ever seemed to have a problem with it. Believe me, it wasn't like I was making a whole lot of money or getting a ton of hits from it. You are talking about a difference of 3-5 hits on a review! How would I have reacted if someone had said to me "we'd like to give you a hat but won't because of this..." I honestly don't know. I'm ticked now because it's like I have been blacklisted for no good reason. Show me anywhere on the site rules where it states you don't post links in groups? It doesn't. These same people are making an assumption that I wanted everyone to rate me VH and I would rate them VH. That's not the case - I rated everything honestly and believe me, I took flak over the years when I rated people less than VH who thought they deserved it. I don't care if they posted the link in a group or what they rated my review. But because some people on the site have their own unwritten rules and make ASSumptions, there are people blackballed from getting recognition who don't even know about it. I never knew that disagreeing with the majority was being "a disruptive presence" on the site, but apparently this is so as well. People who haven't done anything against the site rules but have asked honest questions about things of the Leads abd Community Care have also found themselves on the outside looking in. And then they want to know why they have a problem with writer retention...

I am not sure if that is true or not. I belong to a small yahoo group, where we talk about things and post our reviews occasionally. I know I have seen other members of that small group get hats. But we are talking about some pretty popular members though. I have been trying to become a Top Reviewer in books for a long time and in fact am rated #66 in that category, but that is apparently a hard category to to get a TR in even though I have seen people who not ranked as highly as me get it. I think you just have to have the right people take notice of you and like you in any given category. I know when I first started doing book reviews I didn't write up to certain advisor standards, I have of course improved, and they have been more farorable towards me the last couple of years or so, but it is possible that there are black lists. I honestly don't know. I try to stay out of the politics of things. I just try to write good reviews, and rate honestly. I try to stay out of any group or discussions where people are criticle of one another. I am happy with the TR hat that I have and hope I never lose it. If I get more great, if I don't that is fine too. Obviously there is one I want and am going for it, but its been many years and it has never happened. Oh well.
