Leave The Pump Behind Day May 15, 2007

This is a nationwide effort to get the gas prices to come down I hope that all Mylotters will join in on this effort!! In 1997 in an effort to get gas prices down there was a nationwide call to not go to the pumps for one day that effort was successful driving the gas prices down 30 cents overnight. Today with gas prices averaging over $3.00 a gallon nationwide it is time to tell the gas companies that we won't take it anymore. Tell them we are tired of the gas price gouges. Tell them you won't pay more for your gas. Don't go to the pumps May 15!

Our gasoline price is going up in this area. We are over $3.50 and some stations are $3.99. The roads are crowded in this area, so people aren't driving less in this area. I don't think people will avoid the pump in Southern California, but I will not be driving that day.

Reach out and tell everyone you know about it. The more people that know the better our chances to make a point with the gasoline companies.

I’m doing this- I am also not purchasing gas from Texaco, or Mobil—I think the 2 largest gas companies- Something has got to work- I’m sick of paying this price! Others are too- Sunday I filled up my car—drove very little and Monday my check engine light came on- My gas cap was off- and I was down to a half tank- Some one came and took it right out of my car- Happened to 2 other people on my road Sunday night- So others are sick of paying too!

I have a locking gas cap. We had a problem with someone siphering our gas where we used to live so we invested in a locking cap. Yes the prices are driving people to do things they normally would not do like steal someone elses gas. It is sad but hopefully enough people nationwide will leave the pumps on the 15th to make a difference. Be sure to email everyone on your list to encourage them to do the same.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but this just doesn't work. A BOYCOTT has to be for a much longer time than just a day. This email has been going around for years. Check it out: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp

I wish their was a way to get it out on a major news forum as one of their entertainment type of stories. It is not like they do hard news anymore. It would just be funny to see how far it could go.

Oh yes I have read a discussion that the prices in America are way too high so I don't blame the people to boycott the pumps for one day as this should certainly make the gas stations put down the price of the gas as long as you have filled up those tanks before hand so that you can drive to work or whatever you need to drive your cars. The prices are expensive here as well but not as bad as you have them in America.

I haven't been out today (thank goodness I am a WAHM right now and don't have to go anywhere most days that way I can conserve gas but even when I am working outside the home I don't live that far from work) but last night on the news they said gas in some locations here in Jax (its a BIG city) is up to $3.00 a gallon here by the house it was still holding at $2.87 a gallon yesterday. As I said I haven't left the house all day so I don't know what it is up to now.

The e-mail that circulates telling people to avoid buying gas on May 15th has been circling for several years. And every year my family and I don't go to the gas stations on that day. It's amazing that a few years ago we thought gas was so high that so many people were active in spreading the word. And still the prices have almost doubled since then! Maybe the more this day comes around, the more people will join in for a very worthy cause.

Sweetdesign, your comment about not pumping gas for a week is more likely to affect the gas companies than just a day of not pumping gas. See my comment below.

I think that more people need to join this cause. If a huge turn out happens (or well no turn out in this case lol) then maybe someone will pay attention. Imagine if everybody left the pumps for a week. We could bring them to thier knees. That would really be something to see.

Lot's of people here have been talking about not buying gas on the 15th. I heard that last time it did drop the gas prices something like .30 over a period of a few days. I think too if we stop using so much and start to show that the demand is not as much it would help. I wish BP would stop running these commercials about they are trying to find new ways and technologies. There are ways to do it. It seems the govt is holding back. Why not use the corn and help ourselves and the farmers.

I think this effort would be more effective if it was launched for a longer period of time like a week. Until the government steps in and forces a price cieling on gas companies they will continue to price gouge. I don't look for that to happen since the gas companies line the politicians pockets.

This would be great if everyone would do this. I was watching the news last night and it was said that despite the high cost of gas, Americans are still using as much if not more. I plan on not going to the pumps on that day. Hopefully, many more will do the same. We could all gas up the day before or the day after. Wouldn't it be nice if we could stay away from the pumps for more than one day?

I hope that happens! We don't have that here, but we do have Walk to Work days. Not that many people particpate and sdly after the fact they complain about how awful it was and scare off anyone else who is thinking of using alternative transports. I wish we had a Leave the Pump behind day here, even if that meant filling up the day before or after, just to make a stand. Our fuel (and electricity) prices are outrageous and they just kepp going up and up and up and up...you wonder just how high they can go!
