What are your thoughts on summer school?Do you think the school does it to make more money from the state or do you think that they really think the kids need it?Just a thought what do you think.

I feel summer schools are required for children. The reason for this is they may otherwise become lazy thinking that the school sessions are finished. The summer school will keep the child in regular habits of getting up early in the morning, getting ready for the school although they wont be teaching much. The potential of the child will be maintained. I saw in some summer schools children from outside are also taken. This will enable the local children to interact with outsiders and they may become friends. The children enjoying the summer can at the same time will also learn somethings which are not possible to learn during the regular days. So I appreciate the schools who conduct summer schools.

If they don't have other special or important things to do in summer. Then its better to enrolled at summer class. You'll be assured that your child will learn and take advantage of the fast changing education right now.

We don't have summer school in Australia, not in the sense that the US do. Occassionally there may be courses in the summer holidays for year 11 and 12 students, but that would be all. Children need a break over the summer holidays, & learning can be had at home, going to the beach, visiting the museum, participating in sport, doing art & craft at home & reading a good novel. Of course, it all depends on the parents.

I think that the teachers think it will help out the kids who are behind or didn’t do well in classes. I know when you get up in the higher grades- If you fail a course- you can take it again in summer school so that you can move ahead the next year with the next course. My friends son goes to summer school- he is slower (learning disabled)- It is good for him to go- he needs to extra help- he is in 4th grade- So I think that it helps the kids and that is why they go and are referred by the teachers.

I believe that kids should be in school year round and there should be no summer school. The school my son attends does not even have summer school every year, even when they do have it and a child goes they are not promoted to the next grade level. I would prefer that they switched to the year round school system because with the number of days the kids have off, the teachers can barely cover the basics, let alone any other vital subjects (art, music, etc).

Summer school has actually been very beneficial for my daughter. Even though she is a junior in high school, she still has a couple of subjects that she always has a difficult time with, and she ends up falling behind. Summer school is her chance to make up the credits that she's missing so that she will be able to graduate next year.

I know in our town the kids that are asked to attend summer school really need it. They have very few slots for the student and they take them in the order of the kids who need the most help first.
