Is there anyone here that has had some funny, scary or other bus ride experience that they would like to share? Tomorrow I am going to take the bus to work for the first time due to the gas prices going up. I have not taken a public bus here in Delaware ever and wonder what other people have experienced riding the bus. Has it been good or bad? Do you like riding the bus? Did you save a lot of money on gas by taking the bus?

My first day with the bus never happened as I waited at the wrong stop. I was supposed to be across the street to get that particular bus. LOL I got there early but was on the wrong side of the street. I will try again tomorrow and see what happens. It will be interesting to see how many people are on the bus and what they are like.

That was a pretty disgusting experience that you went through on the bus. It is probably not something that happens very often but am glad that I was not there. LOL I would probably avoid the bus after that one.

Where I live, we have no public transportation. I have to use my truck, and it does 11 miles to the gallone at $3.06 a gallon for regular. I wish we did have a bus with the way gas is going up.

It is terrible how the price of gas has gone up and probably continue to go up. I think many people will be taking the bus soon if it is possible for them. If not, they may have to find jobs closer to home to avoid those high prices. Have you thought about moving to an area closer to where there is public transportation?

Oh man! I will never take a bus again! ha ha ha It was horrible! It smelled. It was a rough ride. And people just are not very respectable. People stare and make me feel very uncomfortable. Because someone saw me with a cell phone, she wanted to use it to call and make sure she was getting picked up. And then getting to another place to switch buses was horrible!!! The next bus station was not open yet and I was followed by some guy that looked like the Uni-bomber and I was to be his next victim! But thankfully, some other guy came along and saw the situation and sat next to me on the ground. In exchange, I had to give him smokes and turn him down gently on refusing to give my phone number. Eek! I will never ride a bus again. It was very very scary. But hey! I hope your experience is better! :) Tell us how it goes. I would love to hear a good experience. :D

I haven't had too many interesting happenings on the bus, but I have met or seen many interesting people. Like this one guy who got on the bus and told the bus driver that he's a disabled veteran and he'd better wait 'til he sits down to take off or he's gonna sue him. He said it rather loudly, too. There's also a girl who will sit there covering her nose with her clothes because she can't stand the smell and will even get herself to gag. Ohh... what other sorts of interesting people have I seen? I can't remember anyone else at the moment. I don't particularly enjoy taking the bus, but it gets me to where I need to go. Even if it does take me 2-3 times longer than it normally would if I drove myself. It does save me a lot of money, too.

Oh, I forgot about a story I heard. It didn't happen to me, but I heard about it from other bus riders. There were some people who were waiting for the bus at the local Park And Ride. Well, they wanted the 148 bus and when they saw it pull up, they got on only to find out that it wasn't the 148, but some other bus and the bus driver pulled into the wrong spot and didn't change the number of her bus. She didn't even signal to the proper bus driver who pulled up behind them that he should stop and wait so that the people could switch to the proper bus. What a mess! Hope that made some sense.

I had to take a bus one summer because my car broke down. I was going to work and this older lady sat next to me, which was weird in the first place since the bus was near empty and had plenty of seating. There was road construction going on since it was summer, so the road was bumpy. Everytime we hit a bump, the woman said "meow". I had a real hard time not laughing because I didn't want to make fun of her!

oh and to answer the last part of your question, I didn't like it, it got really hot inside the bus and it did save me money compared to driving a car.

I already had my first interesting day as I missed the bus I wanted to take. I got there early but I was at the wrong stop, even though the sign stated that my bus was to go there. I was supposed to be across the street and going in the other direction. LOL That was definitely a funny and interesting ride you had there. :-)

I know I responded to this already, but I had something happen to me yesterday that I just HAVE to share. I was taking the bus to go shopping and along the way, the bus driver stops at one of the stops. No big deal, right? Except that nobody requested the stop and nobody was waiting there, either. He gets out of the bus, walks into the 7-11 that was nearby, buys himself a Gatorade and walks back to the bus and goes on his merry way. My question is, why couldn't he buy himself that Gatorade when he was on his layover by the Albertson's?

As much as many will give horror stories and some are quite true and yucky to think about, most of the time it's not a really bad experience, at least here in Erie. I used to take the bus all the time, especially in the winter, when I was married and we lived directly on the bus route. I could literally walk out my door, across the street and be picked up by the bus. The few minutes drive to the door of my work was stress free for me, especially in the winter since I didn't have to go out and shovel the drive or start the car up early and fight the ice, etc. Although one winter we had Mario Andretti for a bus driver. He was flying, the streets were ice and he literally went THROUGH a public park instead of around like he was supposed to be doing! Every single passenger got up and got out of the bus at the next stop, thinking we'd rather be late for the job then early for the grave!!!! Needless to say we all had the same idea when we got to work too. Many called to report the incident and luckily there was a crossing guard that called too. It was so scary! But that's the only real horror story I have, other then a few smelly people that I preferred not to sit near or downwind of! LOL

I do take the bus once in while, especially when my husband can't drive me to a place I need to be. It wasn't that bad though since most of the bus driver will be very friendly explaining things to you when you don't understand which bus to take or which route...except when it comes to waiting for passangers. I just have to run my breath out when I'm 2 minutes late as the bus won't wait for me and wait another 15-30 hours for the next one....phew. But did i save a lot of money on gas by taking the bus ??? My asnwer will be "NO". Considering the bus ticket that I have to pay everytime I get on the bus...I can just save them for gas and drive relax in my own car....leave whenever I want. Here, it wasn't that much different.

I love riding the bus... first I save soo much... second you meet interesting people... but always keep an eye on your personal items, make sure you know what buses to get on or off at... and if you do not have good balance then try to make sure you have a seat at all time

I had a very frustrated and somehow funny bus ride once with some friends. It was a Sunday, and we all arranged a bus trip to an amusement park that is around 2 hours away from the place we live. Before we left, the woman resposible for the trip and the park tickets collected the receipts we had. She stayed there, and we left with a guide (there were also many children/teenagers with us). We had a stop in the middle of the way to use the restroom and have a coffee or something, and it took around 20 minutes. When we all got back to the bus, we all noticed it was going very slowly. The driver had to stop on the road, because we had a flat tire. He checked, and noticed there was NO spare tire on the bus, and called for some help. We stayed there, on the road, for around 2 hours until the help arrived. Then, we all talked and got to an agreement that we wouldn't like to go to the park anymore, as we had spent too much time there waiting, and the park would be already opened for hours at the time we got there. So, we all went back home. The woman responsible for our ride was in our city waiting for us to come to deal what we'd want to do. If we wanted our money back, or if we'd like to arrange another tour. Most of us opted for the money back, but she said she didn't have the money at the moment, and asked if we could wait until the next day, when she would be able to pay everyone. We said it was ok, but that we wanted back the receipt she's taken from us signed by her to have some kind of prove she owed us. For some reason, she never gave those receipts back, and we had to call the police to solve the issue. She ended up saying she'd only give the money to people who wouldn't want the receipt back. My boyfriend and I ended up getting our money at the same day, but the rest of the group sued her, and after about 6 or 8 months, they got an amount around 6 or 7 times what they paid. It was quite a mess, but man, I had fun on that day! All that police stuff was somehow exciting, and we all laughed a lot at the situation. Quite a story, huh? :)

Me and one of my friends used to goto the institute together at times we used to take the bus when our rikshaw puller was absent. Most of the times I used to get the seat and my friend was not lucky in that matter. One such day I decided that I will offer the seat her the moment I looked towards her to offer the seat one person came and occupied the seat so that day we both went standing in bus. So that day I understood that your luck if you want to give to someone else leaves you as well so we just laughed and decided not to offer the seat to another.

Buses are pretty much a part of normal Singaporean's life. A bus is just a bus here.. no "big deal" really for us...

Well i don't know if we can save a money by taking a bus rather than riding our own car coz i don't have a private car. But i think, yeah you can save more money if you will take a bus, specially if you're having a long long trip by bus. But if you have a private car, you have your privacy and you can move more freely, what you think?

I am in the UK and I travel everywhere by bus or train. Generally speaking its been all good. Apart from the delays, the standing because of overcrowding etc! I couldn't survive without our local service and the drivers are mostly friendly and do the best they can. I hope your trip went well!

When I was little after my dad passed away my mother and I used to travel by bus back and forth to visit relatives. We always enjoyed it. The only problem we ever had was I got car (bus) sick one time. The driver of the bus was a very nice person. He pulled over at the nearest store and got me a coke which helped me to feel better. Other than that we never had any problems riding a bus and rode on off and on for five years until my mother remarried, after which my stepfather was able to take us visiting. Hope this will help, although I know it isn't quite the same as riding a bus to go to work.
