Did or do you celebrate your child 1st birthday?

I didn't celebrate my daughter 1st birthday. I just went for dinner with my family, that's it. No my friends with their children, no clowns and no birthday cake. I thought at this stage, she doesn't understand what is birthday celebration is about, so I thought I better allocate the money for savings because these days life is quite tough with money, I just want to use the money wisely. My friend did make a birthday party for her daughter and it was not going so smooth I thought because everybody was busy with their children. How about you?

I had a huge party for my sons first birthday. I invited over 80 friends and family members to celebrate his big day with us. Unfortunately we had a big snow storm so only about 50 people showed up but it was nice. We had a ton of food, games and prizes for the kids and a pinata. His theme was Elmo's World and it was a blast. It was definately a lot of work and a lot of stress but it was worth it. I highly doubt I will do such a large party again but it was nice to experience it this once. The one good thing is that he received enough clothes, sneakers and toys until next year so although I spent a lot it sort of equalled out because I didn't have to buy my son summers clothes. Anyways, I don't think the majority of people have a huge first birthday party and you have to do what is best for you and your family because your child won't remember it anyways.

You must be very happy with your son's birthday party. It really was a big party though only 50 people came. Maybe later when my daughter went to school I might have a small party in her class on her birthday because I'm not so into party or big celebration.

Yes, it turned out nice. My family usually has a big celebration for the 1st birthday so it's sort of a tradition for me and my son's fathers family but I could totally understand why a person would choose to have a small, low-key celebration.

I celebrated all of my childrens first birthdays and every birthday after that. I always invite my mom, my sisters and their families, my inlaws, sister in law and her family over to celebrate. It isn't that costly. Everyone brings a dish to pass and we provide some type of meat dish. For the first birthdays, I made my kids cupcakes so they were easier for them to hold. It is priceless to see them eating a cupcake for the first time. I wouldn't go to extremes by having clowns ect, but I think that it is important to celebrate the life of my children.

I prefer small celebration too. Now she can hold things stronger than when she was 1yr and before. I think I'll make cupcakes on her 2nd birthday. Thanks for sharing.

We celebrated our kids 1st birthdays. while its true they don't understand what is going on, hitting the first year is a milestone to celebrate and they can look back at the pictures of it when they get older. We've celebrated all their birthdays so far. we don't go all out for all of them, most of them we just have close family and friends over for cake and icecream.

We gave our daughter a piece of cake and put a party hat on her for her birthday and then that weekend we went to see family and had a little party at a park. We had lunch and a cake for everyone. It was more a get together for family and a chance to see her than it was a birthday party. I figured we could "go all out" when she's old enough to remember it.

OK, so I took some pictures with a small cake with the family to have something to remember for her. My father and brothers came to sleep over because they came from a different town, just to take some pictures with my daughter on her birthday. It was fun.

We will celebrate my daughter's 1st birthday( may 24th), but not a huge gathering. Just me and hubby. We will get a small cake and take a few pictures. It does not require a huge celebration. She has no clue, but I stll want my mom to see the cake all over the baby. It will be priceless.

Yeah, I did the same before taking my and my husband's family to dinner. But since I live with my parents in law and my father was so eager to take photos of her (she is his 1st grand child) then we have quite a big photos of all on her birthday. Thanks.

I had a big party for my daughters 1st birthday..I knew she wasnt gonna remember it but to have family and friends there to see her try to blow out the cake and take lots of pictures was such a great experience. We had games, music, food, prizes you name it we had it for the party. I look back at those pictures because shes 4 now and starting school in september so when i look back at the pictures from her 1st birthday they always bring such a big smile to my face.

We celebrated my daughter's first birthday in a park with Popeye and Olive. We had an outside party by Popeye's and although I'm not sure if my daughter enjoyed the party that day, what I'm sure about is that she enjoyed her gifts! Now that she's 5 years old, she's happy looking at her 1st birthday pictures and how small she looked back then. For us, it was more of celebrating a milestone that we wanted to share with our family and friends. We celebrated her birthday every year because aside from the fact that I love organizing parties, the happiness that she feels on her special day is just priceless. :)

I always did with my 3 children. It has always been a tradition of sorts. and children will never pass this age again so why deprive them of such simple celebration?

I celebrated my son's first birthday with a very small party. Only family members. We had a cake, and presents. That was his first cake so we got some very cute pictures. He had fun with his presents. It turned out to be a very good first birthday.

We celebrated our children's first birthday but not in the traditional sense. It was more of a family get-together. We did have a birthday cake (Wal-mart provides a small sperate cake for the birthday child for first birthdays only) and family bought gifts for them to open. We did not invite friend, just famly. We figured out how much it would cost and used that money to put into a savings account. We do this until kindergarden when we feel they can actually have fun at a "real" party.

In China, people celebrate the 1st birthday of child.Chinese believe that the 1st birthday of child is important to the baby and the family. The new baby can bring good luck to the whole family so the 1st birthday of a child is also a cherished chance for the whole family members to get-together.Child is the future of each Chinese family. In the past days,Chinese people held the 1st birthday party for the new baby and on the party, they prepared many items on the table and let the baby grab. The item grabbed by the child can predict the child's interest and his/her future profession. So the 1st birthday is really important to Chinese children.

We celebrated my son's first birthday. Mainly for one reason, We are proud parents, I'm a proud DAD. We just wanted to celebrate his first birthday to thank God for all the blessings we received. And having reached 1 year old is a total achievement . Our son is the best and wonderful blessing and the most precious gift from God.

I celebrated both of my daughters first birthdays. Not anything extravagant but I wanted to do something and take tons of pictures so that when they get older they can see what mommy and daddy did for their birthdays. I know they will not remember their first birthday, but i think really it is more fun actually for the parents and family and a chance to celebrate the life of their child! They both had their own cupcakes and it was fun sitting back watching them and to let them make alittle mess it was cute and fun to do! :)
