Out of diapers?

What do you do when you don't have any clean/dry diapers for your child to wear? Do you keep disposible ones on hand just in case? Or do you keep a big enough supply of diapers not to need them? I have built up my stash big enough that I always have plenty on hand no matterhow many I'm washing. Except I only have 3 overnight diapers. I just tossed them in the dryer when my babe started yawning and rubbing his eyes, pretty soon he was too tired to stay up. So I put a plain prefold on him and triple folded a fleese blanket for him to lay on. When he wakes for his midnight feeding i'll switch his diaper then. What do you do in cases like that?

I don't have the time to worry about cloth diapers honestly. Wish I did, but I just buy disposable diapers, and that works for me.

OK, well this is posted in the cloth diaper section so it is for people who do use cloth diapers. And really, it takes no more time to use a cloth diaper than it does a disposable one.

Ok, well it's your choice to use cloth diapers; however, I am a working mother and do not have time to soak and wash dirty diapers. I'd much rather toss a diaper and spend that extra time with my son.

I feel like I have a pretty good supply, and have yet to have an emergency where I was completely out. I have about 5 infant all in ones, around 40 pre-folds plus three covers. I also have two g diaper covers and keep a box of the inserts for car rides, nighttime and walks in the stroller. They are technically disposable, but they can be composted or flushed and they decompose in two months... a happy marriage of disposable conveinience and cloth, all rolled into one diapering system! When my bub gets older I have more than 30 larger all in ones, plus bigger covers. I love cloth diapering! If I ever ran out I imagine I would just use some random cloth material.. I sew so there is always some sort of cotton fabric around. Let's hope I don't end up in that situation any time soon!

I have enough diapers to last me through 3 days, but I usually wash them every 2 days so I haven't run into that problem. I don't even know what size of disposable diaper my son would wear lol. I usually use the pocket ones first, so if I'm running low I have some fitteds to go through. I was having a problem where I didn't have enough overnight and nap diapers so I bought some prefolds to stuff the pockets with, much cheaper than the mf inserts!

I've used both cloth and disposable before. When my (much) younger sister was a baby we could only use cloth. She had sensitive skin and had all sorts of problem when we used disposables with her. With my son we were in and out of hospitals with his heart condition for the first year or so. Disposables just made more sense. We barely had time for sleep and usually weren't in areas where we had access to a washing machine. We did use them some when we were all home though. I just found out that I'm pregnant so we'll be thinking about this again by next year. If, for some reason we don't have enough cloth for our purposes we've been known to use kitchen side towels. My husband is a chef so we usually get them by the 250 count for the house. Properly folded and covered they can be very effective and absorbent. This always seemed very fair to me since many chefs (who are also parents) will sometimes use clean cloth diapers as side towels at home. They're thick, absorbent and don't transfer heat as readily.

i've used fingertip towels and kitchen towels also. some of my favorite diapers are terry squares i got from australia. flatfold diapers are an excellent and versatile option to cloth diapering. i like them better than prefolds.

I have a lot of prefolds on hand to use between washings... we normally use contour diapers that I've made, but I haven't had time to make a full supply of them yet. So when we run out of those, we use prefolds and covers. It works out well, because I know that when I've been using the prefolds for about half a day, I need to wash the diapers.

I've used old T-shirts with creative folding when I'm waiting for cloths to dry. Receiving blankets, which seem to breed in my drawers anyway will work for a quick fix too. Do you have doublers too? I found almost any diaper will be fine for an overnight if I toss in a doubler or two, but my youngest wasn't that big of an overnight wetter.

i'm lucky in that i sew his diapers and never have a shortage. i actually only have 2 days supply of diapers so i wash most every day. i'm getting a larger supply as i try to tweek and make a new pattern lol. seems i'm never happy with my "new" patterns so my poor lil guy gets these "seconds" diapers. he's not a heavy wetter so i have no concerns about his night time dipes. i do have a supply of 10 flatfold diapers that i can use in an emergency, we haven't used them for several months now. we are using exclusively AIO's and bamboo trainers made by me.
